<< that's pretty bad... but he's still driving home in a reliant. >>

Actually you're wrong 😛 He drives home in a 12 second Daytona 🙂

LOL @ this thread 😀

Personally, I think the whole Asian mindset is that they're going to buy import cars and race them, and could care less about American muscle either way. In fact, I believe that quite a few (if not most) of the kids driving around in riced out buzzbait these days really have no clue about engine design and performance, and hence have no idea of the kind of real horsepower an American car can put out.

While there are exceptions (NSX, RX7, etc), they tend to be quite expensive (and therefore beyond the pricerange of most of these kids).

One last point: When was the last time you saw a Honda run an 11 second timeslip more than 2 or 3 times without breaking something...?

shockwave has made a good point... I'd just like to add that I think "ricing out" a car is more of a cultural thing rather than a "go fast" thing... I'm not saying that ricing cars is just an aZn thing, but as with everything else, it's the result of pop culture, trendiness, society, etc.

<< Lets meet at the tracks, you bring whatever, I'll show up in a nice modded Supra, RX-7, S2000, WRX, Skyline GT-R...Or if you REALLY wanna play, break out the big guns, Acura NSX.... >>

Ok, how about next wednesday? I'll bring my mustang, and you can bring your Supra.... Oh, you don't have a Supra? Well, since we're just going to pretend we have some super fast car, you can show up in your imaginary Supra, and I'll show up in my imaginary friend Jonh Force's funny car.

If you don't own the car, please don't say you're going to show up at the track in it....

my guess would be around 17s...

a stock civic HB runs around 16.5s quarter-mile... but with those huge rims this one will certainly run slower than a stock civic...

EDIT: oops.. didnt realize the answer was given at the beginning of this thread since I didnt read all the replies until after I replied... oh well, I was close...

but what's so special about 1/4's? Sure that reliant may go fast in a straight line, but how well can it handle the twisties?

Who cares? It's a drag car. That's like asking "Sure you're boat may go fast on water, but let's see how well it handles flying"

It's a boat, not an airplane. It was built to float, not fly. Similarly, that reliant is a drag car.

😀

It's also like saying "Sure, the Lakers are good, but lets see how they play without Shaq and if Kobe were 30 years older!"

<< best time all night was 17.98

N8Magic wins!

Import drag racing is a JOKE.
>>

OMG that's funny. I was going to guess 16's@85 mph but 18!! That's probably less than 80mph :Q
All those wings and stickers and junk must somehow slow it down from stock.

My not riced 98 Integra GSR will do low 15's@95, no mods whatsoever. Ricers are an embarassment to the import car community (although domestics can be riced too, I have seen it with my own eyes, fugly as sin). Imports aren't made for drag racing, they're autocross and road course racers.

Funny story, I was driving into Seattle on I-90 last weekend and this punk kid pulls up alongside me in his riced out ~94 Civic and acts like he wants to race. The funny thing was, everytime he'd drop a gear and thump the gas, his car would make this loud farting noise but he wouldn't speed up one mph. Not one. Just loud noise in place. Once I wiped the tears of laughter out my eyes, I dusted him.

<<

<< Import drag racing is a JOKE >>

All imports are not Honda Civics, or even Japanese.
>>

Good point. Another one that hasn't been addressed, and should have - is the driver. WTF, the driver is the most important part. Yet nobody said that maybe the driver couldn't drive worth crap? I remember seeing that thread about someone in a CIVIC beating a Vette! Obviously, the guy in the Civic knew how to drive, how to start off properly, while the guy in the Vette didn't deserve to be behind the wheel. 😉

Civics and many imports, are designed with economy in mind. They are not meant to be drag demons. They live for their reliability and mileage, and low price. If they were meant to be powerful, they would come with 300hp instead of 100, and 300lb of torque instead of 100. Likewise, they'd get 10mpg instead of 35 😛

Point is, some domestic cars are lemons, just like 'imports'. Any of them can be made fast. Neither is "better" for doing it, or not doing it. People can drive their vehicles as they see fit (so long as it's not causing problems for other people). I think complaining or putting down others because of their choice of car, or what they do to their car, is much more despicable an act than what the people they accuse do.

While I do find it sad that someone would waste thousands of dollars making their car look hideous, and not go any faster, it's their choice and it's up to them to do so if they please.

<< Import drag racing is a JOKE. >>

yah but my "import" motorcycle can get high 9.x's stock. and i laugh at the freaking cars that cost three times more than my bike and cant even break the 10 sec gap

Edit: got an F in spelling!

<< what kind of times do stock mustang gt and camro's do(I know nothing about drag racing.....) >>

for the brand models:

Stock camaro Z28 - about 13.0-13.5, depending on options and driver.

Stock Mustang GT - about 13.9-14.4, depending on options and driver.

Stock Mustang Cobra - about 13.3-13.7, depending on options and driver.

For 2003, the new Mustang Cobra should run 12s, stock.

Well, I thought it was implied, but the subject of this thread was cars, not motorcycles.

Test for you:

Hit an elk at 40+ mph.

Then see who's laughing.

Cars have their purpose.

And I laugh at Road Rash...

<< The ford windstar next to it DID beat it. Also, I know there are some fast RX-7s and Supras, etc. ZBUt import drag racing as a whole is still a joke, despite the very small minority of fast imports. There was roughly 100 imports at the track on wednesday and only TWO of them broke into the 13s. >>

LMAO

My friend goes to see thoes things all the time. Thats soooooo sad its not even funny.

<< didn't a Civic beat a C5? >>

Yep..

Sad the driver of the C5 can't drive for crap.. :Q

I own a Civic, but I know my car is slow, and I'm not gonna try and make it run 13s and stuff. I'd rather spend the money in suspension and do autox. 😉

<< While I do find it sad that someone would waste thousands of dollars making their car look hideous, and not go any faster, it's their choice and it's up to them to do so if they please. >>

That is my definition of rice, when they could have gotten better for less.
For example, some punk kid buys a $10K Civic and then dumps another $10K in exhaust, park bench spoilers, wheels/tires, suspension, body kit, paint job, stickers, stereo, etc. And what do they have for their $20K? And ugly $10K that's still slow, looks stupid, will be hard to sell, and is a cop-magnet. They would have been MUCH better off just buying a decent $20K car to begin with.

<< i wonder what times my van would run.. it is a 3.3 V6. It will peel out on dry pavement though, it kicks ass. >>

Probably not as fast as my 2.5l turbo van. Atleast not once I get my grainger valve, 3 inch exhaust, and intercooler 🙂.
