Guaranteed overclock chips, worth the extra?

Are pre-tested cpus worth the extra cash? Yeah I know that "it depends on the extra". I'll try to be more specific.

I've got a BH6 and celly@450 and I am going to upgrade to a new celly. Options buy a pre-tested chip, 566@850 for 107UKP or 600@900 for 128UKP, or risk it and get a 566 for 85UKP or 600 for 90UKP. All are OEM. Those are pretty big differences. Do they reflect oc failure rates for those chips?

My understanding of the celery chips and o/c'n em is that almost all will do 100 fsb. I have seen some threads where people claim they can't hit that mark, but you also have to factor in the quality of the other parts (i.e. ram). Seeing as how there is such a large price difference for the pretested chips, i would suggest taking your chances. Those who have claimed it can't hit 100 still are able to get 90+

I decided to do the PIII700 route, and wanted to get close to a gig. After going through 3 different processors, and probably spending an extra $175.00( after reselling them at a slight loss) I wish I had spent the extra$ up front.

Chewie!!!!!!!!!! It's me GUNNER. My nick was already taken here so I had to go with this. 🙁 From the looks of things big guy alot of people have had pretty good luck with the celly 566. So that might be worth the try to get an untested one. Or head into the for sale /for trade and see if some one has one that is willing to ship to the UK, it's worth a try.

It's good to see ya you old hound dog. 🙂

I would go for the untested CPUs and make sure that the place I buy from does not sell pre-testeed ones. Those pre-tested CPU that couldn't hit the desired speed had to go somewhere...

kinda takes the fun out of it when you know what it will hit, doesnt it? i have heard of celeron 566's hitting 1ghz plus. but those are rare. it's kinda like the lotto, sometimes u get an amazing one, sometimes u get nothin =) i'd go for the untested
