Well I did, and it seems the gtx 470 and gtx 460 are not getting raped at all?
They are at those price points right?

Make sure they use the quality settings for the AMD cards also like Xbit labs did.

On the planet? Seriously, why don't you wait for 69XX. Also the 5970 is just as fast with a gimped driver, same power specs (don't know about noise and temps but those are related with fan profiles), and cheaper. I know its the fastest GPU, but as it has been said a bajillion times, we buy graphics cards not GPU's (though the day when that comes will be cool, think cpu).
 
Happy, the 6870x2 is almost = to a 480 GTX SLI in some tests. Even assuming that we need to increase quality, it still beats the 470 sli (I think). Are the 6870 and the 470 even the same price?

You buy graphic cards based on the GPU!...I dont compare dual GPU with single....why, I dont have any of the sh*t CF\SLI issues.....

The price of the gtx470 was 205$ AR last I checked.
I think there on there way out for the new gtx 570, so prices are falling to rock bottom.
 
Last I checked, xfire and SLI both depend more on per-game optimizations than the single-GPU cards do. Has this changed recently?

If not, I'd still prefer the best single GPU over a roughly comparable or even sometimes faster dual-GPU setup.

Nah, just use cheaper GTX460's and o/c. done deal.
 
I'm so tempted to pick up the 580 for my new i7 rig (sans video card). Just waiting for Cayman reviews to finalize my decision.

no they wont,remember the gtx 460's in sli scale just as well and overclock better (overclock scaling). They have better direct x 11 ,and tessalation peformance also.

Is the CF scaling pretty much fixed now for the 5970?...10.9 drivers?, or was that a hardware issue fixed in 6xxx series?
 
10.7 had bad scaling even for the 5XXX series. Notice in some games it only gets 20&#37; more than 5870. 6XXX series so far has better scaling than the 460 (it goes 5XXX<4XX<6XXX in scaling). The 68XX have better tessellation performance in unigine if you didn't notice.

I would think sli/ crossfire (with gtx460's) are about even now.

Back in July the gtx460's scaled 90% with release drivers.
I'm sure there have been improvements since then.

There was a thread that put 6800 scaling around 88-90% when compared over a number of reviews. The 460s where much lower than that. So 6800 do have better scaling than the 460. the fact that 6870xfire is faster than 470SLI should prove that.

90% right there in that chart for gtx460 with RELEASE DRIVERS.
The 460's scale much better then the gtx470'/480's do.
I would bet the gtx460 scaling with the newest drivers are over 94% by now.
I'm not going through all the searching to prove it. If they had 90% on release day, I'm sure its more by now. That chart I posted was from July 27th.

Guru3d's review has them at 1.8x and 1.9x on July 13.

Scaling goes up and down for both AMD and nV as new games are released. Crysis might be a 90% this month, next month its going to be at 80%. Look at the anandtech review with the newest drivers for all the cards cards.

Careful with using Computerbase.de.

They are using Catalyst AI OFF for the 5870. They use Catalyst AI: Standard for all the other RV8x0 though.

That will be a few percent off compared to other reviews.

Additionally they are using the texture detail level for the NVIDIA cards in Quality as opposed to High Quality some other reviewers use.

I'm not sure what AT uses. I guess it might be driver default.

6870 beat 460 in unigine and the 68XX series got better scaling (it was in an article). I will try to find the article and the unigine performance, but if anyone can back me up that would be great.
 
I've made a quick comparision of these high end video cards:

I think I've included every review and only used the highest settings tested. I probably won't add anymore because there's no need. There's enough data there to come up with a general consensus.

The GTX 580 is on average 17&#37; faster than the GTX 480 across all games benched.
The GTX 580 is on average 38% faster than the HD 5870 across all games benched.
The GTX 580 is on average 48% faster than the HD 5870 under DX 11 games benched.

The 580 added a little bit of breathing room between it and its other competitors. A somewhat small marginal gain, but small margins can add up. If we're going to get competition in the high end we need the HD6970 to be about 30% faster than the HD5870 in non-DX11 games and 50%+ faster in DX11 games. I somewhat expect it do this, but maybe AMD in their quest to reduce die size as much as possible won't achieve these goals.
