Because of my ATI bias, I say 6870. It is faster, I believe, about equivalent to a 560Ti, so, better choice.

Their performance is nearly identical on average.

If you can get either with lifetime warranty (EVGA, XFX) or one with a quieter cooler or one with a high factory pre-overclocked,, I'd go for that version.

NV will also run faster in Lost Planet 2, HAWX2, Crysis 2, Civ 5 can use PhysX in games like Mafia 2. The 560 will also have better overclocking headroom. So at the same price, I'd lean towards the 560.

How much more expensive is the 560 Ti edition?

Agreed and how much more really is the TI Version? I believe ive seen it on newegg around 2 or 3 TI models for under $200.

yeah it is going to come down to what games you play/plan to play.

nv and ati both have their strong games, be sure to check your list.

its a tough call with the 6870 vs 560 vanilla, but again, the specific games you play should decide it if price isn't the factor.

it becomes much easier if it were the ti edition, i would go with the ti.

I vote for an overclocked GTX 460, cheaper and just as fast as both those options. The oc'd models are going for pretty cheap at newegg.

The more cynical amongst us would say those opting for the 560 (non TI) are also voting for an O/C gtx460. :p

$195 for a 560ti is a good deal. Of course, so is a 6870 for $155. The performance of the 6870 has improved quite a bit with recent driver releases. At stock clocks it trades punches with the 560ti and, in some cases, even the 6950. Both of those two latter cards though do typically have more O/C room.

It's definitely a better card than the 560 (non TI).

In case you haven't already bought a card - How about a 6950 1GB for $170? - Link

Edit: Deal is dead, sorry :(

Honestly you either go for the GTX 460 1GB or go straight to the GTX 560 Ti. Or the HD 6870. OCNewbie posted the link to a great deal that you should jump on if at all possible right now.

man..i miss the deal...
my budget is pretty tight around ~150
both card use about the same power, But 6870 tends to get hotter then 560...

very tough choice...

I wouldn't be concerned about temperature too much.

The 6870 reference design seems to be quite far from critical temperatures so even if you have a small case and/or a high environment temperature, you should be fine.

And if you are on the above conditions, the fact the GTX560 consumes slightly more power (meaning more heat will be dissipated somewhere, ie, your case and/or room) could possibly affect your system more than the 6870 running a couple of degrees higher.

What's your processor? AMD cards tend to be more forgiving with slower CPUs than Nvidia's cards.

I cant believe it took 6 days for someone to ask anything about his system. what good does recommending a video card do when we have no idea what his pc looks like?

OP, list please ALL of your specs in detail including what res you want to pay at.

I would get the 6870 and oc, but you'd really be better off saving a little more money and getting a ti variant of the nvidia card.

2500K @ 4.5Ghz + 8GB Ram + AsRock Fatality Z68

Currently I will play @ 1680 X 1050
But I will upgrade to 1920 X 1080 or 1920 X 1200

yeah you can rock any card with that setup. with a gtx560 non Ti or 6870, I might would stay with that 1680x1050 monitor to get the most out of those cards. that is if you are pretty happy with your current monitor.

agree with toyota, 1680x1050 is plenty, and a 6870 or even the gtx 560 will be able to run most games very well

Curious Toyota, not jacking his thread (and hopefully it can help him), but if you have a capable CPU as he does and game at 1680x1050 (with no upgrade there in sight), what would be the strongest GPU from either camp that you would buy?

even at 1680x1050, I would probably go with the fastest single gpu card I could afford since a 2500k would give 100% of it performance. that being said there is not much value in a 580 or 6970 over the next cards in line so a 570 or 6950 would be my choice.
