Impressive. But is that, in order of least impressive to most impressive, A) Single Nvidia GPU record B) Single GPU Record C) Best Record period (beating out even 2x5970)?

Is that a world record of just 285s? It's not a world record score wise. A single 5970 at stock scores higher.

A 285 on a suicide run or a 285 on a setting that it could run at for a long(5+ years) time if need be?

don't worry I'm sure nvidia has a renamed, rebadged product coming your way so you just may find out. =)

Well, Fermi's official naming is in the 400 range and the old cards were in the 200 range and Nvidia's already rebadged the GeForce 210 into a 310... what was the 300 series for again?

Disclaimer: It is all in jest. I have ZERO advanced knowledge of anything like this.

Sensationalism at its best. GTX285 breaks 3DMark Vantage World Record by being....drum roll please....number 261 on the list! Behind like 10 pages of Radeon 5 series cards and a smattering of GTX275's.

Orb says: HD5870 in the lead, followed by a bunch of HD5970, HD5870 and GTX295.

Hey if it still stomps the competition like last round they can call it whatever they want. :awe:

What are you referring to may i ask? Then I ask what is your definition of stomping?

Is a Gtx 285 better than an hd4890. Depending on the benchmark yes but is hardly a stomping because it is just as easy to find plenty of situations that the role reverses.

Is a Gtx 295 better than an an hd4870x2. Depending on the benchmark yes but is hardly a stomping because it is just as easy to find plenty of situations that the role reverses.

Nice try with your flamebait sensationalized fanboyistic hog wash failure of a thread.

I really wish Nvidia would get in these forums and tell you to you to stop making them look like bafoons. I really like the products and tech they bring to the table but the groupies and roadies I can do without

Don't forget the greater than $100 price difference between them!

Makes me wonder why ATI didn't make a faster more exspensive card?

I think the answer to that is the 4870 refesh which was the 4890 still couldn't beat a 2 year old gtx 280. 4890 maxed their cards potential.

In all reality ATI really hasn't held the crown since the x1950xtx vs 7900gtx. 5 years?

Well they might have held it for a month with a dual card package.

The majority of websites/benchmarks show the 275, 280 and the 285 faster than the 4890. Overall ATI had the 4th fastest GPU last round.

Now if you want to play the "Depending on the benchmark" game. I can find cases where the GTX285 keeps up just fine with a 5870.

...So you don't plan on defending your claim that GTX285 breaks the world record then?

Btw: overall, AMD had the second fastest card last round.

You can also look at review sites all over the web and see a 4870X2 owning anything with an Nvidia label on it on 30" monitors...

*Golf Clap* In other news, if you multiply GTX285, 2x8x5 you get 80 which is much bigger than 5x9x7x0 which is a big fat 0.

Back on topic. How does the GTX275 beat the GTX285? Is it from massive overclocks the 285 cannot achieve?

I just checked the majority of benchmarks, they show the 4890 faster then the 275!
Btw was the GTX280 2 years old? I thought they launch the 4800 series a week after the GTX200 series.

Meh, I can pull close to 19,000 with my 5870 and i7 without tweaking anything.
