Nice... I'm more curious about 4K settings... wonder how well these gains scale as the resolution goes up? I could see the 1070 jumping out even more than the ~50% if the memory gives it any advantage.

Interesting to see that typically, the old max becomes the new min. Not a bad upgrade path...

Great Job! Anyway you can throw Fallout 4 @ 1440p in there? I'm looking at going the GTX 1070 route myself. The 970 still holds up pretty well, but I need a bit more umph @ 1440p. My GTX 970 clocks around the same (1522/8000) game stable.

Which 1070 did you buy?

I should get my Zotac 1070 Amp on Friday. Figured for $450 shipped I'd give it a try.

AIB cards are kind of scarce so far with very few of them reviewed it looks like.

I have gainward GS and i think its best aftermarket card.Same cooler have also palit btw.
Few videos
Valley benchmark at 2100-2140/9400
Max temp only 61°C and max RPM only around 900-1000.

Could you try it once more with the GTX1070 at 1500 core and 8000 memory ?
Just like the GTX 970 ?
And turn the boost clock of from both ?

I am curious how faster it is at the same clock. GTX 1070 already has a ROP advantage(64 vs 56) and 300 more shaders and 16 more TMU's.

I already done that 1070 is around 30% faster than GTX970 at same clock. Its faster than even GTX980 at same clock

It will be much better card with GDDR5x.Its badly memory bandwidth bottleneck.

My monitors are 3440 x 1440 for theGTX 1080 and 2560 x 1440 for the GTX 980 TI. Getting great frame rates.

OP, thank youfor taking the time to post your findings.👍😎

Thank you. Where do you think the 30% increase in performance comes from ?
Is this on average with all games you tested ?

This looks like the perfect thread to convince people who say, "You don't need a 1070 for 1080P," that they're wrong. Thanks! :)

Thanks, I was looking for a GX 670 - 1070 comparison everywhere.

Looks like I would get +10-30% extra on DX11 compared to my 670 SLI

Maybe 50-60%+ in DX12 :)

Not to mention you get to avoid ever dealing with multi-card problems. I'm willing to even sidegrade performance to ditch multi card personally for that reason

Yep. Reviewers love to compare with current cards, but rarely go to very far into previous generations, which is what people are upgrading from.

OP, very nice work!

Its from delta color compresion.Thats why its even 10-15% faster than GTX980 at same clock. Also 1070 is memory bandwidth bottleneck so high clock dont increse performance that much and pascal looks like it have same/worse IPC than maxwell but its not true.
