GTX 980 SLI VS GTX 980m SLI?

OK guys I'm not a newb I know the 980 is more powerful but here's the thing. I'm moving a lot, not moving on campus kinda thing as in taking flights and bus/ train trips. So I'd like to know how big the difference in 980 SLI and 980m SLI would be. I'll get a desktop only if the performance gap is very noticeable especially in games coming out next year. By the way carrying a desktop on planes every 3-4 months or so but I'm willing to make sacrifices if I have to.

Specs desktop (water cooler CPU GPU chipset)

2 gtx 980 SLI
i7 5960X
1TB SSD
16gb RAM
1200 PSU

Specs laptop:

2x gtx 980m SLI
i7 4960X
1TB SSD
16gb RAM

Thanks 🙂

How are you going to carry a 27 inch monitor with you? Bring it to hotels? That's way too much hassle. I would say someone who can easily afford to buy a $2500+ laptop with 980M SLI can easily upgrade that laptop every 2 years. I would say if you travel a lot get the gaming laptop and just upgrade frequently to keep it up to date. The alternative is to buy the Aorus X7 Pro with dual 970s. It has a 1080p IPS panel and is still very light and thin for such a powerhouse laptop, albeit loud at gaming. I would recommend a small form factor desktop PC if when you travel, you tend to stay there dor 6-12 months. But I'd you have to travel rather frequently, a gaming laptop would be my pick.
