GTX 780 Ti on 800W PSU - no 8-pin connectors

The ASUS GeForce GTX 780 Ti I've got requires two 8-pin PCI-e connectors but my 800W "90%" efficiency power supply (HP Z620 Workstation) only has two 6-pin PCI-e connectors. The card came with an adapter for two 6-pin to one 8-pin. Would it be enough for me to draw power from one of the SATA power connectors to power the other 8-pin slot?

I doubt it. Even though that 780ti probably would fit into that PSUs total wattage, you probably couldn't get enough through those connectors. :/

Would two of these these be a viable option?

I'd say yes. If the specific rails (if it has more than one) and the PSU in general can handle the load I don't see any issue with the connector being able to handle it.

"Since the two extra pins of an 8-pin PCIe connector are just two ground wires looped back into two ground wires of the 6-pin layout, there's absolutely no reason to assume that a 6-pin connector can't do 150 Watt as easily as an 8-pin one"

"They weren't worried about putting too much power on a 6-pin. They just wanted to create a standard that ensured that the PSU on the other end of that connector could actually handle the load of the higher end graphics card."

Just my view, disclaimer etc. etc.

Thanks guys, I remember reading that there was a risk of damaging components with those 8-pin adapters, but the two PCI-Express 6-pin connections run on separate 12V rails rated at 18A each, so they should be able to push 216W each without trouble.
