it looks like 3gb is going to be sketchy going forward as we already have two games pushing it hard. and whats 50 more bucks when you are already spending that much?

Thanks, 1 more question please, I am intersted in this: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 SC ACX, 6144 MB

But im not sure, because the ACX version for me it looks like cheap maybe its all plastic, not like the silver ones they are metal. I know its about the performance afterall not the look. but is it really cheap the ACX version?

watchdogs and wolfenstein

that's actually a really good cooler. some people love those cards but some have said they were noisy though. just try it see as odds are it will be just fine.

well I am not sure of the quality of your exact psu but as long as its decent its way more than enough. your entire system will likely never pull more than 400 watts on full load.

Not even a 6GB is going to be enough, since the beginning of the year we have gone from 2 to 4GB of need, project that trend out and you'll need 8GB by the end of the year. Best go with a 12GB model to be sure it will last until the middle of 2015.

If I was buying a new graphics card today I'd have absolutely no hesitation in getting a 3GB model.

It is amazing how we went from 2gb arguments last year and how most agreed 2gb was plenty for 1080p and suddenly a year later a 3gb just isn't gonna cut it. I know the 2gb on my 770 clearly isn't enough already but that is ok cause i run out of performance before i run out of vram anyways so now i need both more performance and vram which is a first for me lol.

As for Op get as much as you can afford i say, 6gb being the better choice.

Thanks for your suggestion... From where can I get the EVGA GTX 780 6GB? because I cannot find anywhere that can ship to Malta (Europe).

Thank you!

Yes I udnerstand but the 12GB is expensive, and as I mentioned I am playing 1920 x 1080 only not higher resolutions

You've got to decide if running ultra textures in the latest games is worth $100. Watch Dogs is not a good example because of its inefficiencies on the PC platform but more games are going to follow suit. I haven't seen any screenies of the ultra textures, are they even worth balling a bead of sweat on your brow over hardware decisions?

I am really confused now. some people told me to get the GTX 780 3GB and some the 6GB (for fute proof) Is it really enough 3GB for todays games? Because the 6GB I cannot find it anywhere becaues it is out of stock...

Based on the rate at which game usage of VRAM is climbing I suspect that you wont be able to play a single game on it by the end of the year. You really do need to get 12GB or you'll have to turn the settings down.

Game developers don't care what people have in terms of hardware, they don't care that almost nobody has more than 3GB they only care about what their game needs and if no one can run it then so be it, you wont find these businesses compromising their artistic vision for technical limitations of today's GPUs or indeed the limits they impose. So what if less than 1% of your market has less than 3GB of VRAM, those people who didn't anticipate crazy requirements for textures mixed with low quality shaders deserve not to be able to play your game and its maximum settings for marginal gains. Everyone should have known the underpowered consoles would result in more of the quality of the game being packed into textures and removed from the shader, it was an obvious development and now all games will be like this as we have 1 example that shows the way.

The best option is to be buying a 6GB card if you can't find a 12GB one and then applying the "solder your own VRAM" option to turn it into a 12GB card. That is definitely the new future proof mode, because due to the consoles (and other hand waving arguments I can't be bothered to trot out) clearly the developers are abandoning what is feasible with today's hardware and what people can buy and charging up the requirements enormously. Or perhaps the argument is that it will only go to 4GB because that is what AMD's cards currently have and all the developers are targeting hardware that a minority uses and ignoring the larger market? Hence it will stop there and everyone should just buy an AMD card because it has more VRAM and that is what makes their cards awesome sauce.

3GB is absolutely fine, especially at 1080p. There are many reports of Watch Dogs stuttering even on >3GB cards, and supposedly a patch is forthcoming. I believe the texture streaming mechanism it uses isn't currently optimal for PCs like it is for consoles.

Crysis 3 is about the only game I've seen that legitimately gets close to 3GB, though again, at 1080p, that's even less likely to happen.

BrightCandle is being sarcastic, FYI. :awe:

Crysis 3 is fine but Wolfenstien is not according to the reviews such as on hardocp. I still see no point in saving around 50 bucks when 3gb is only going to get more sketchy over the next year or two. Even that silly Daylight game pegged my vram which was odd for such a game.

I'm hoping Nvidia's 800 series will have more onboard memory, AMD has been putting out 3-4GB even on midrange cards.

On another subject, since Mantle combines multiple cards' memory together, maybe DX12 will do the same in SLI/CFX.
