Can't decide. Though I know about AMD new cards coming out today. Don't worry I am waiting but still want to be ready to buy a video card if they don't pan out.

I play games like Simcity 5, Left 4 Dead 2, BF3, Command and Conquer, and many others at 1680x1050. I will upgrade my monitor sooner or later in the future. I like all details on Ultra.

Massive overkill. Even if you upgrade the monitor to 1080P, HD7970 1Ghz for $280 is more than enough.

If you are sticking for 1680x1050 for 6-8 months, I would even get HD7950 / GTX760. Right now HD7950 is only $180. You are better off buying one of these cards and selling it in 10-12 months and jumping on 20nm generation unless you plan on upgrading the monitor really soon.

As far as 770 goes, it is horrendously overpriced.

As far as 780 goes, I'd wait for performance, launch date and pricing of R9 290X. It's rumored to be faster than Titan for $599. But again if you have a $180 monitor, it hardly makes sense to spend $600-650 on a GPU.

Thanks my monitor was not only $180. Actually it is a NEC 20 inch with a IPS panel.

I don't know about the GTX 770 being overpriced. The GTX 780 and Titian definitely.

i5 2500k @ 4 GHz
8 GB of ram
Windows 7 64 bit
120 GB M4 Crucial SSD
150 GB WD Raptor 10,000 rpm SATA
500 GB Hitachi SATA

So why ?

Because its important to know what you will be pushing the card with.

If your processor was too old it would create a bottleneck on the new videocard.

Russian's advice is sound, I was just curious about the rest of the rig.

It sure is. I like that he is from Dubai, UAE! Much better than the other people here from closer by.

Get 4gb one 760 or 770 and if needed after upgrading make a sli. If you have the money to spend without worrying about them then go 780. Even sli 760 or 770 can be better then the 780 the 780 has the performance on single gpu.

If ultra details are needed 780 or 770 sli 4gb on single monitor not the one you use but a fullhd with 120hz or a 1440p with 60hz. Think on the future too I don't know when you will upgrade the monitor but when you do it, It will be a drawback on performance.

On tight budget I would say 760 4gb for now then on upgrade the monitor or few months later a second 760 for sli and high performance but forget the ultra on some games.

Isn't the 4GB models incredible expensive?
At least in Norway you have to add an extra 25% to the price and the step from the 760 4GB to 770 2 GB is just another 15-20%.

Not when you get it on sale. At least in the US.

I know how expensive computer hardware prices are in Europe. I have a friend who lives in Denmark.

Fair enough. 1680x1050 resolution is not demanding enough to spend $400+ on a GPU. You can save your $ and upgrade to newer GPUs later. Look how fast the GPU market moves. 1 year after 670 launched at $399 we have GTX760 that delivers 97% of the performance for $250. In less than 2 years the price of a 7970 has fallen from $549 to $279.

I don't know about the GTX 770 being overpriced. The GTX 780 and Titian definitely.

Less than 10% faster than 1Ghz 7970 but if you are in the US, you'd be paying at least $380 for a 2GB version. 1Ghz 7970 is just $280.

Maybe 280X will be $349 with BF4?

Comparing newegg to the biggest etailer (komplet.no) in Norway, the 760 is 30% more expensive including 25%vat, and 770 is 25% more expensive including 25% vat (or more correctly the same price)
And the 780 is 23% more expensive including vat (or actually cheaper).

But we don't have any rebate systems, so we only have to be on a lookout for good deals :)

Well if that happens and if I got a GTX 770 I would return it.

Just can't see how it is overkill if you use Ultra Quality Graphics, 4x AA, and 16x AF with maybe even more enabled. Like that MSAA or whatever it is called. No idea what it is.

Yeah I think my friend has a GTX 760 but he has water cooling too for his PC! He built his own PC about 2 years ago! So proud of him!

Well I got a GTX 770 anyway and love it. Just had to move my hard drive rack out of the mid tower of my Lian-Li PC60 case. :( Though it is ok I only have two hard drives so they fit on the above hard drive rack with my SSD!

You can't beat Ultra quality in all games with 4x AA and 16 AF with some SOAA or whatever it is called. May try turning on the other one instead.

Thanks. Still watching AMD though.

I got the 4 GB for future proof. I know there is no such thing as future proof but they recommended 3 GB for BF4 I want at least 4 GB of video ram for breathing room even if I don't need it all. Better to have more and not need it then to little and need it.
