EDIT: Does not seem to make sense to have a GTX 690 for this system with 2 monitors. Sell or Keep?
Ok...

So I bought a GTX 690. With that, it makes me wonder.... Why in the first place did I buy it? System is in my signature and it makes you wonder now.

What games do I play? HON (newly addicted), Skyrim... and now I have no other games to play to stretch the system. Logic would dictate I should buy a third monitor. So every inch of me wants to but how in the world can I fit it on a 47" wide desk. The monitors themselvs are 21.5" in width each. Ok so lets say I get a new desk...

Which desk do I get? How do I make it work for eyefinity. Do I buy the same 2333T monitor or do i buy a rd monitor for the center monitor?

I would love your thoughts as I am a little perplexed about my new setup.

Get a 3rd monitor and one of THESE. Shouldn't need a new desk then.

As far as you questioning your purchase goes, if it makes you feel better, Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor would approve of the 690.

Buy a monitor that isn't crap. Get a 27" 2560x1440 screen or a u3011 - they are on sale at amazon.

Surround is okay but with 22 inchers? I'd much rather have a 27" 2560x screen by far.

You might run out of Vram. Some games you'll have to turn off AA and lower settings. You got plenty of GPU power for large multi screen resolutions, but not enough vram. I am puzzled that Nvidia advertises the 690 as a multi monitor monster when in fact it is gimped and suited for not much more than 1080p gaming as a result of that 2gb framebuffer.

this thread has a very fishy "brag" feel to it. What exactly do you need us to tell you? We shouldn't be the ones to help you feel like you spent your money well. There must have been something that told you inside that you needed a $1000 grapics card.

Its utterly stupid that people get 500$+ GPUs for such cheap monitors.

No seriously, I am not looking for props or bones, I am trying to figure a solution to take advantage of this card. If I get a 27" or 30" monitor I am looking to spend another k and if I do that, would I really get more out of games than going 3 monitors? Currently I have 2 23" Samsung 2333T monitors. Does it make sense to get a third? Or should I get a larger center monitor with 2 smaller monitors on the side. I really just want to get the best solution for my current predicament since definetly I would have been better with a GTX 680 instead of a 690.

Your help is appreciated.

What do you recommend I do return it?

You can get a 27" Catleap that runs 2560x1440 for under 500. Sometimes way under 500.
30" are still just too far out of range for most, but then again, if you spent a grand on a vid card, then what's another on a monitor?.

There are some nice 30 inchers for sale in the classifieds for between 500-700. Maybe I saw them at Hardforum though

You are likely stuck at 1080p unless you want to run out of ram. I recommend you sell the 690 and replace it with two 4gb 670's. Then you can get a larger monitor or add more monitors and be fine video ram wise.

How would a center 27/ 30" work with 2 23" would I just ditch the 2 23" and run the games on the center and work on the other 2?

I know this all sounds weird, but I truly thought the GTX 690 would offer me something. I definitely should have done more research. I am now just trying to come up with the best solution.

This is sound advice for high resolution gaming.

that sounds a lot smarter, plus the 2 670's have more ram. What though, would make sense monitor wise, since with just 2 23" it does not seem to matter, should I go ahead and get one LARGE monitor 27/30" then keep the 2 23" on the sides?

No! Sorry if I sounded rude but I think people have it all backwards. People get real excited for GPU purchases but don't think about their screen - IMHO upgrade monitors first to a glorious 27-30" or triple 27"s and *then* worry about getting those SLI 670s :)

So the upgrade path should be glorious monitor -- > glorious GPU

PS: the first time you see a 30" PC monitor it really is sensory overload, it'll definitely put a grin on your face. They are huge, so great for gaming and productivity. Surround is pretty great too but I am honestly holding for screens with super thin bezels that are 2560x resolution. Bezels between 3 screens kinda lower impressiveness I think, thats just me though.

I am kinda starting to feel the same way. Since with 2 monitors right now the bezels are so huge I hate the distraction. I feel the 2 monitor setup is great for productivity and work but it would not work well with games. Plus I def will need a larger table since the monitors are so close to my eyes. I am curious if I were to get a 30" or 27" monitor and put the 2 23" on the side how it would look.

On the other hand, I am really starting to agree IS hould unload the 690 and get 1 680 / 670 then move on from there. since for the games I am playing and what I am doing it does not seem to make sense to have 2 GPU's

LOL, you're going to stick with this outlook eh? During the whole GTX480/580 with 1536MB VRAM vs 69xx series with 2GB, 2GB was what you NEEDED and 1536 would run out of VRAM.

It's time to bang a different, more believable, drum.

1GB is more than enough, even 768MB is fine. Right?

Seriously. Buying a 2GB $1000 card for multi-monitor, high resolution gaming is selling yourself short. Good card, but there are better options.
