GTX 690 vs 2x 7970Ghz edition overall

So the VP score for HD 7970x2 is more than GTX 690, what I want to know is which option(lets pretend you can have either option for free, price doesn't matter) you would prefer and why -what other factors are there? Not every reason has to be objectively measurable, opinion is fine too.

For some games like crysis 3 7970x2 earns higher FPS, whereas for others (like BF3) the 690 has more or less the same lead.

Also, how much better/different is Direct X 11.1 from 11

If its for free id take a 690 no hesitation, uses much less power and runs quiet, doesnt matter than 2x7970 is faster, it sucks too much power for the minor difference.

the 7970 has more vram, so if you go with a higher res than 1080p, or go for some super 3 display gaming, i would go with the 7970 xfire.

Assuming money isn't important:

1 Titan
If not, then 1 690
If not, then 2 680s
If not, then 2 670s
If not then 2 7970GHz

However, if you talk of single cards, then
Titan > 7970ghz > 7970 > 680 and so on

I agree.

When a 690 sucks like 230watts while playing,
a 7970 ghz ed crossfire is doing around 300+watts.

In that sense the 690 is much more effecient, a little slower or not.

There's a thread out about a "true" 7990, finally comeing.
If your not in a hurry you could wait and see how it ends up performing.
It ll likely be lower in power consumption (1board vs 2cards), and if nothing else might lower 690 prices abit.

Well if initial price is not a factor, id take a Titan/680 over any 7970 simply for the power use savings alone over time. When many countries in the EU pay >0.30 EU cents a kwh it adds up.

I had a choice of $450 for a reference 670 or $330 for a custom 7950.

Why the titan over 690 (just wondering), in terms of FPS 690 does better across most games at varying resolutions.

While CF/SLI offer superior performance, often latest games tend to have issues.. or games not on the "popular" dev list, never even have support so it ends up running 50%.

I forgot to factor that I guess... do most games pick up and automatically use the 2nd card in the 690? or will that be a problem

A titan will be smoother at 40fps than a 690 at 50fps. Single gpus are always smoother. That is why. Besides, an oc Ed titan isn't that far.

they came out with a superclocked titan like a week after they were available (thanks evga!).

mine are both standard though. they only had 1 superclocked edition and 3 regular, so i had to go for matched!

Please, not you too. This is a stupid fad. Be aware, not everyone notices microstutter. To these gamers, 50 fps with sli/cf is just plain faster than 40 fps.

Its like "input lag", such a big deal, but only to a small minority.

purely out of curiosity, what do you use such a powerful graphics setup for? What resolution? what sort of games/other things?

Honestly I prefer single cards to multi gpu unless you can sli titan. If my budget was usd 1000 in usa, id go titan.

Though with new cards out in another 9 months it doesn't make sense to do titan unless you do titan sli which is 2gs.

nothing really. i mostly play at 1080p and sometimes 3d surround or 3D. when i get the itch to play in 3D or 3D surround, i don't like any hiccups or slowdown. i want the best experience.

doesn't cost me anything to upgrade, so why not?
