Hi.

I bought a gtx 680.

My other specs are:

Motherboard: ASUS P6T SE X58 S-1366 ATX
Memmory: CORSAIR 6GB DDR3 XMS3 INTEL I7 9XX PC12800 1600MHZ CL9 (3X2GB)
Cpu: INTEL CORE I7 950 3.06GHZ 8MB S-1366
Psu: COOLER MASTER SILENT PRO M ATX12V 2.3 700W
Hdd: WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLACK 640GB 7200RPM SATA/300 32MB

Resolution: 1920x1080 120hz

When i play Battlefield 3 i get a very decent fps. I can play multiplayer on ultra settings without any slow gameplay.

But!
When i play anything else, my fps is so low its even lower than my old Gtx 460 sometimes.
A few examples are:

Borderlands:
In borderlands i have 5-15 fps LOWER with gtx 680 (!?!?) than with my old gtx 460.

BM: Arkham City:
This game is unplayable for me with DX11, its too stuttering when i turn around in fights in the city. And the fps rarely goes above 60.

Red faction: Armageddon:
This game, with dx 9, no AA everything else maxed out, the fps dipped down to 35 sometimes when i destroyed buildings? With dx9?!!?
When i use DX11 and all settings maxed out (NO AA) the fps is around 40-70.
It feels slow :(

Serious sam 3:
Here i have 70 fps on a small multiplayer map.
A whopping 20-30 fps increase from my old gtx 460.

3dmarks11:
8400 score.

Ok so what the heck is going on? I get 3 gtx 460 for the same price as 1 gtx680 and this is what i get??

The card might not be functioning properly, maybe but why do i get so good fps in bf3?

Did they make this gpu around BF3?? And didnt care about anything else??

Thank you for reading this wall of text, I hope anyone knows what is going on here.

EDIT
*****

Ok so now i tested this 680 in my girlfriends new computer.

System specs:
HD WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR GREEN 1.5TB SATA/600 64MB
CPU: INTEL CORE I7 2600 3.40GHZ 8MB S-1155
MEM: CORSAIR 16GB DDR3 XMS3 INTEL I5/I7 PC10666 1333MHZ (4X4GB)
MB: ASUS MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN3 Z68 S-1155 M-ATX

She got 9144 3dmarks11, I guess thats ok.

But, she got less FPS in borderlands with 680 than her gigabyte OC 580.
Also, she got lower fps in Fallout New vegas with 680 than with her gigabyte OC 580.
Altho in BF3, her fps skyrocketed, when i played BF3 it fealt like i was using a gtx680, just like with my rig. But what is up with the other games? Why cant this 680 handle games that are alittle older than BF3?

There is no way you should be getting lower fps in Borderlands, or only ~ +50% increase in Serious Sam 3.

Something is wrong here, either with your card, your rig, windows or game installation.

This. Have you enabled very high aa by any chance? That may be the problem

Yeah but... i have good fps in BF3, so it doesnt make any sence.
If i had some option enabled for my gtx 680 that gives me bad fps in borderlands
wouldnt that affect bf3 aswell?

What I would do is re-install windows. Its a pain in the neck but, I've had a few video cards (from both sides) that just somehow interacted with traces from previous drivers and / or registry entries. And no matter what I would do, performance anomalies would appear until I started fresh.

Ensure you have the latest chipset drivers (note: these are important, you gain a lot of performance with the proper intel series 6/7 drivers), latest video drivers, latest version of physx, etc. Once you have collected all of the executables you need, begin your reinstallation. Like I said, it is truly a pain but I feel it will fix your problem.

Sorry but what do you mean?
Go to NV control panel,Go to manage 3d settings and then click the program settings tab, select the borderlands executable and change the various settings to see the effect.

Is Vsync on in the control panel? That could limit your fps to 60 even with a 120hz monitor depending on the game.

Crysis 2 seems to run fine.

Dont know what my fps should be at but with hardcore graphics settings at 1920x1080 i never got below 60 fps in the open in the beginning of the game.

So what does BF3 and Crysis2 have in common, that Borderlands doesnt?

Guys isn't it true that the GTX 580 is more powerful in compute performance? Could there be some outside cases where the 580 is faster than the 680?

460 isn't a monster tho. 680 = 3 460s. Op.. overclock to 4.2 and retest
are you really having trouble understanding? he should not have to oc his 950 i7 just to make the gtx680 perform like his gtx460 did. that makes ZERO sense.

OP, just try cleaning your system of old drivers completely. Following the steps in this guide posted at Overclock.net has never given me issues. Clean it all out and reinstall fresh WHQL 301.10, then try again.

Doesn't the "clean install" option added a bit ago in Nvidia drivers do the same thing? Or does that leave behind some things?

Not really sure. A lot of people here will say that they just install new drivers right on top of old ones, so it's probably fine. Only suggested what I did because he's having an issue that sounds driver related.

Did anyone actually test GTX680 in fallout new vegas or borderlands? I find it hard to believe that it really is slower in those games. In the worst case scenario a gtx680 should perform on par with a gtx580.

UPDATE:

BFG actually tested GTX680 in Borderlands and SS3 it was 15% faster and 35% faster then GTX580 respectively.

For Batman:AC Make sure you patch it, regardless of the card without the DX11 patch even a GTX 680 will fall apart in DX11.

Other games - no clue, I haven't tested them in my GF's rig. And kudos on having a nerdy GF :D
