Gtx 680. Are you buying one? Why or why not?

One of the worst posts I have seen here. 560ti is plenty for 99.9% of games (Tf2/ dota2/cs:go/sc2/global agenda, tribes ascend, any mmo, any decent rts etc etc). You might, maybe, not get 60fps on the super crappy "AAA" next-gen graphics, consolized, boring as hell turds that come out every 8 months like brink, crysis 2, and rage, but why should you care?

Maybe for the plebs who only run 1080p 😉

I love how you just quoted games that are either old and/or that don't really require much GPU power at all. Sure, for old games the 560TI is more than adequate, but I'd really like to see him run any modern game at 1080p with anything but the lowest settings and tell me if he gets over 60 fps on a single 560TI.

Sorry, not gonna happen.

I'm thinking about cancelling and just getting the "real" 680 or whatever is coming out in August. There's nothing coming out this summer worth upgrading for, so there's no real rush.

Waiting for a 4GB version. I made the mistake of buying the 1GB 5870 soon after launch and am now unable to run the high resolution texture packs for Skyrim due to insufficient video memory. Not sure that 2GB is going to work for the next two years or more.

I'm holding off to see what the gtx 6 series will offer. And what water cooling options come out as well. Currently running a single 3gb gtx580 and it's doing just fine pushing two 1920x1200 monitors and gaming.

I haven't been following Kepler too closely. If the current 680 isn't the true "high-end" card, what will be out in August? Or is nVidia just planning an intermediate refresh of the 600 series family, similar to what they used to do? (GeForce 7900-->7950, for example)

Truth. Well, maybe not the pleb part. 😉

I need another 6950 so I can get 60 FPS at 1440p. I'd probably get a 30" monitor before I buy another video card though, lol.

No, not buying one. I generally never spend more than $200 on a video card. Besides, I just upgraded 5 months ago to an MSI GTX 460 Hawk (which is slightly faster than a GTX 560 non Ti) and I've only got a 22" Dell 2209WA 1680x1050 IPS monitor, which I am not replacing anytime soon.

I just don't need the extra GPU horsepower. Right now in fact, I'm CPU bound by my Core2, which needs replacing soon (waiting on IVB).

No .. got a 580 ~half a year back, and cytg's rule of upgrade is do not upgrade to something less than 2x performance increase

So, highest settings, MLAA, 60FPS? Should be a walk in the park.

There you go, one game. That took about thirty seconds. DX11, AAA, and released in the last year.

The 560ti is pretty freaking highend in the grand scheme of people who own video cards.

And, as a bonus, I got to link to Tom's 😛

I have a 7970 on the way (in Africa on a assignment) but i would get the GTX 680 since it's $50 less. Oh well i might just get one regardless 🙂

And yet here's a review that says otherwise:

So no, his 560TI can't play all games at over 60 fps like he claims.

If I ever came across this unique thing, in a store, I think I'd be tempted.
Someone else posted a link to this recently. But here are more pics. With additional add-on heat sinks, and VRM daughter-board which plugs in somewhere. All cool.
The idea to include a paint kit with it, is strange but what the hell !
Look at the size of the box it comes in, might not fit in the trunk !

:snip:

Would be cool for a bitchin aircooled case mod project. 🙂

I would buy one if the prices in australia weren't ludicrous.

It's cheaper than a 7970 over for the americans, but over here it's 100 bucks more expensive, which just boggles my mind.

Hoping that the big bad proper highend card from nvidia gets some leaks soon though, to stop me wasting the money now

My GTX 580 should hold out quite a while yet. When it starts to show signs of aging i'll overclock it. When that doesn't work i'll buy a new card. So it has at least 2 years in it 🙂.

The only thing i'm interested in is a newer SSD than my aging 1st gen Force drive. So that is the first purchase on the list for me. (If i'm honest i actually need new clothes before i buy any more PC equipment..lol)
