Amd fans still think the 7970 is worth 50 dollars more then the GTX 670?

Heh...yeah well there's no sense rubbing that fact in. I'm sure all but the most avid diehards know it's a better buy for the 670.

I honestly can't see how anyone could recommend an AMD card at this point and I own one, and have owned multiple others in the past. It depends what games you're playing but all of these benchmarks are within such a close margin it's almost a no-brainer to save the $50.

Same can be said for 680s owners?

Depends, most 680 owners have enough cash that they have to have the fastest hardware as soon as it's available. Those who missed out or just waited are treated to the 670's value. 680 owners and others who buy bleeding edge parts know what they're getting into.

And how is that any different then those who bought the 7970 when it came out in January?

Why does AMD feel it prudent to remove any and all value from their products? No matter what they put their time into they produce inferior products on pretty much any piece of tech they have to offer yet charge like people still believe their products are just as good as anything else.

And people say we need AMD around for competition ... this is not competing this is getting your ass handed to you. Way to put nVidia on cruise control AMD.

Did I say it was different? Why the defensive reaction?

So you going to base it on 3 games? THREE FACKING GAMES? YOU KIDDING???

When they are very important and popular games...no not kidding.

Again I'll ask why the defensive reaction? This has been known since benchmarks were released on the internets. I'm not sure I see the point of the OP but it's not as if it's skewing anything.

All i've read over the past 2 days is that the 7970 is the better card overclocked and from the graphs above it just isn't.

Only data available at the moment showing a max overclocked 7970 vs a 670. Calm down.. There will be more :)

I've seen further proof that the 7970 isn't better overclocked-vs-overclocked. It will also consume 100w more under load and generate more heat. Check out ABT if you want; they did an article on it.

*edit* actually that's compared to a GTX 680, not a GTX 670 as per the OP; my bad.

Why? Because I hate stupidity. If you want to make a valid comparison, how about using the bench where many games are taken into account?

Then if you want to talk about OC, from all the 670 reviews, the OC performance scaling is 10-13%.

Guess the scaling for the radeons? Yeah, do the maths, add it up.

Way to undo any good this might have served. Hell, if you wanted to rub it in, you could have said "Why would anyone pay an extra $50 for less than 1 fps" or "I can't see how this is worth the prime premium". Instead, this will just get derailed with ever increasingly inflammable comments. Also, one data point does not make a conclusive statement. While these could be very typical clocks, we just can't know that yet. Who knows, maybe that was a fairly gimp 670 and they may have more headroom than that. Maybe custom PCBs on either side will swing the balance. The only thing we know for sure is performance at stock clocks and even then we can see that once availability stabilizes some price shuffling/clock adjustments are in order. Who knows, we might even see 7975/7955s making this comparison moot.

HardOCP tested a reference cooled 670 and could only hit 1200 boost clock. I could have sworn the Gigabyte 670 with the windforce cooler could hit 1300 boost clock so in essence the non reference 670s will be faster then a max overclocked 7970

I thought you would recognize those... it's from computerbase.de, they test heaps of games.

You can also use the TPU summary chart if you wish. [H] is great and all but they test 4 games in their reviews, it's good if all you play are those 4 games i guess...

The max i've seen reference turbo from reviews is 1,263mhz or so, and it gave a 13% perf increase from "stock". Whatever the 670 is, add 13% to it for typical (if its a custom pcb it should hit that high or 1.3ghz) OC performance.

7970? Add 35%.

Don, you understand that in those tests the 7970OC was faster than the 680OC most of the time? You didn't link DE:HR. So do you think the GTX 680 is worth 100$ more than the 670? The flaw in your argument is that you're comparing tests that weren't done in the same system at the same time, and you also point out the framerate difference as the basis of your argument when the 7970OC actually beat the 680OC in 3/5 tests. So the 7970OC isn't worth 50$ more, yet the 7970OC beat the 680OC and the 680OC is 100$ more. The game selection also favors nvidia side, there are other games in which that isn't the case.

I am just puzzled by the way you pieced your facts together. Since the 7970OC isn't worth 50$ more, the 680 OC (which lost most of the tests to 7970OC) is even worse at 100$ more.

All that said, the 670 is a helluva card and currently THE card to get for the money. I'd have a hard time recommending anything else for that price point period........I also agree that 400$ would be a great 7970 price point. Maybe AMD will get some freakin sense and release 1.5gb 7900s, because MOST people do not give a crap about eyefinity.

If we're going to talk about value and performance per dollar, the 7850 overclocked beats all those cards and you should include the 6870 and GTX 560 as well.
Amen but only if that 7850 is equipped with Arctic :p

they are pretty much equal in those game but if you bench crysis or metro the 670/680gtx won't be able to keep up

But the problem is they are only good for benching atm, very few people are actually playing them ;)

Not true. Add to several websites for crysis 2 680 is a bit better and for metro these cards often tie. 7970 is much better with crysis 1 tho
