Hello guys, Im just about to order a graphic card and need some help. Im think about buying a Gigabyte gtx 660, but lots of people are telling me to buy HD 7870 instead. Im using a Radeon 7670 atm, but from what ive heard that a really crappy card (?).
My current psu is peak 500, and I only got one 6+2 pin and one molex connector. I read that the gtx660 requires one 6pin and the 7870 requires 2x6pin and I really dont wanna buy a new PSU. So is it worth getting the gtx 660 and will it work with my psu and will it fit in my motherboard? I also wonder how big upgrade this would be from a hd 7670 to a Geforce gtx 660. Also, is the gigabyte model a good one ? its one of the cheaper version as i've seen. They're both about the same price. Im playing games in 1920x1080 but im sick of my fps drops/bad graphics in some games.
Also, I dont need any additional cooler right? for the gtx 660.

Specs:
Predator G3610
Intel(R) Core i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz
Ram 8 gb
w7 64 bit.
Amd Radeon HD 7670 (apparantly a rebrand 6670)
psu: 500w
Motherboard: Intel sandybridge/h67 (at least what CPU-z said).

Any help would be great, im stuck here and cant decide what to purchase!

Thanks in advance

To answer your questions, yes it will be fine. You can also use an adapter to convert the mole to a 6pin if you need it. Most gpus will come with one. People recommend the 7870 because its faster for the same price but both will work in your system. If you don't plan to overclock don't worry about cooling it.

Great answear and it helps alot! Things is I only got 1 molex left, and I think that its 2x molex --> 1 6 pin. But how much guys do you think it will improve the comps performance? currently having about 30 fps on media on Diablo 3 for example.

Well, that makes it easy. Get the 660. It will work fine in your system. The Gigabyte model is good.

And it will be a big upgrade from a 7670. Really big. Like three times faster big.

The PSU is fine, but you're going to have to check the measurements yourself.

GTX660 is a great choice. It typically performs within 5% of a 7870. 7870's hold the slightly bigger edge once overclocking is brought into the picture since 660's typically do not overclock that well, but realistically the performance delta between the two is still small and would not make games magically much more playable. I have a fairly well overclocked Sapphire 7850 2GB (1170/5700) and a Galaxy GTX660 (got in on that $165 deal the other week, OC'd to 1090/6700) and from my early testing, the 660 performs better in everything I play on my HTPC except maybe Sleeping Dogs, which my OC'd 7850 might have a couple fps edge.

Wow, that's quite the overclock on the 7850, and the GTX 660 still sounds like it holds its own. tigerdirect.com has a couple Galaxy 660 models for $209 w/$10 rebate + game right now. That's only $10 higher that the Powercolor PCS+ 7850. It clearly isn't the $165 deal, but...

That sounds great. I decided to buy the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 2GB PhysX CUDA ( no clue what the PhysX cuda means) but I cant wait to see the performance improvement from a darn 7670. Also got Assasin's Creed III for free when buyin it, which aint to bad.
