GTX 590/690 Question

What is the primary difference between the GTX590/690 versus "real" SLI of two GTX580 or 680?

If I buy two GTX590, will the computer have any problems recognizing all 4 GPUs? I am interested in compute and won't actually be using them for gaming. However, I am interested in bandwidth, if slapping 2 chips together on the same card increases bandwidth / decreases latency, I am interested. However, the clock speeds to appear to be lower than two vanilla GTX580/680s...

I don't think it should be a problem.

The GTX 590 is a single card that has two GPUs in SLI. Instead of taking two PCIe slots it only requires one.

The GTX 590 is better for compute than a GTX 690 I believe.

What about the difference between 2xGTX580 vs GTX690?

This is an interesting problem, w. two cards obviously the bandwidth between the host would be doubled (assuming I can feed both cards w. PCIEx16 rather than PCIEx8 if I had to split it up). However, is there more bandwidth between the two GPUs if theyre on the same card? and would be latency be faster?
