not a guarantee of course. If you read the first post, I think they mentioned that it was a very low VID, being better. Someone with a higher VID had trouble getting there on DICE. Obviously YMMV.

Still, looks impressive, if you can get a low VID, 1 GHz should be doable, albeit with fan on 100%. Kinda asking for at least an after market fan setup or water.

I'm sure in a few months all the gtx 580's will be going over 925 core easy.

If that's the case, why not ship them with a higher reference clock? It's not like they're going to threaten another product. That was part of the reasoning behind the 460s overclocking success, right? The reference clocks were low so that the 460 would not render the 470 useless?

Ask Nvidia, my guess would be lower power consumption, cooler, and quieter card, and because they knew how fast it needed to be to beat a 6970.

How can Nvidia know how fast a 6970 will be? In any case I think you're right. There was the cooler/quieter goal with the 5XX and Nvidia certainly delivered.

A clanmate of mine just got his a few days ago. Even without overclocking he says it's an absolute beast. He runs a 30" monitor etc. The only caveat was that it was $569.
Still should be good for a couple of years use at least.

Did he get that from Newegg? They have a promo code going for all cards right now, and that would bring that price down closer to $500 (pretty lame of them to launch with high prices and market a "sale").
