GTX 570 SLI compared to last years 5970. How much faster?

Assuming you are getting good Xfire scaling AND good SLI scaling of course. A very quick google suggests something like a rough 40 to 50% improvement depending on the game. Does this sound like it's in the right ball park? Reason I ask is cause there is a chance I might sell my 5970 and something else I have here and get 2 570s in SLI. If I can sell the 2 items for enough it should come out almost even.

Oh and for those wondering my system specs are in my sig here. And yes I use a 30 LCD. So yeah 2560x1600.

Why not wait for the newer cards to come out. You already got a good gpu and therefore is a perfect candidate to hang a bit till next year when the new cards get released. That should be a better notable upgrade.

Please don't link some old benchmark from yesteryear.Thats not relevent today. Sli gtx570's have improved dramaticly since January 2011.

A gtx580 is very close to a 5970 today and a gtx570 is not that far behind a gtx580. Ask current 6970 owners. The 6970 is = to a gtx570 right?.

yeah but 5970 is still close and in some cases dead even with gtx570 sli in some of those games. really performance varies wildly depending on the actual game and its not like that review is from that long ago either.

Look at the games in the review Toyota, old crap games and the gtx570 sli drivers were still basically new.

I think its past you bedtime bud.

In modern games a 5970 barely bests a single gtx580.

I don't own a 5970 so I can't say anything about issues over it. I think the OP is the expert in that area and can tell us if he had issues with his current gpu. But couple of months away from the newer Gpus I would rather hang on and then see how it goes from there when they do get released.

True, if I had a 5970, I would wait till the next wave of cards is out.

old crap games? I think you need to look at the review again. many of those games are still used in benchmarks today. and you sure are getting a bit snippy lately.

It's horribly buggy with Skyrim. Though this may be fixed with 11.12/13 and the next cap release.

remember sli or crossfire you still sit with the same architect limitation. That is that Gpus are still being seen as two independent Gpus rather than one big rendering engine. Your next upgrade should be a look into future proof.
Use the card till you get crappy performance out of it then upgrade it for a faster one. But I wouldn't go to another dual gpu solution that give me such a small percentage in performance increase. If you want to swop to nvidia wait for their new releases.

Yeah actually I told myself my next card would be a single GPU solution. SLI and Xfire will always suffer from driver and scaling difficulties.

Let's see what replaces the GTX 580 in the 6xx series. :awe:

remember that the 6xxx series CF will result in pretty much a linear gain when you add the second card. piss-poor is inaccurate with scaling offered by the 6xxx series.

No I mean Nvidia's GTX 600 series. I'm thinking of looking at whatever the successor to the 580 will be. The 680 or whatever they call it.

games within the last couple years are great on a 5970. i never had any issues with it until i upgraded to the 6970 xfire when they came out. i gave the 5970 to my buddy who has been using it just fine. however, he's had some issues with 1 of the GPUs banging in device manager and stop working. he updated drivers and it went away but it happened again apparently. it hasn't done it in awhile, but it's making him nervous. so he's waiting for me to upgrade so he can get my old cards

The 5970 is still a powerful card, I would not upgrade until you can upgrade to a configuration with at least double the performance.

In other words, wait for the 7xxx series and the GTX 6xx series.

I think post above saying 70% improvement might be overexagerating abit.
But I do think your right, when your saying round 40-50% or so.

If you sold your 5970 and got 570 SLI, you should see around ~50% gains, maybe slightly higher in some games. (assume you have a monster CPU + overclock, or are running really high resolutions)

"Duurrr drivers for the Nvidia cards are way better" does not an argument make.
