GTX 560Ti, 448 core OR 2gb Version

Indeed, wait.

At the very least it might shake up prices somewhat, but there might be a superior product which catches your eye.

Unless you're going SLI, the 2GB isn't much use compared to 1 GB.

But the 448 is a failed 570 with more heat and noise than the classic 560 ti, and you may not be able to buy a second one later (limited supply of the failed chips) so SLI is not a good option for it

So I'd say:
- Wait for the new AMD to see if it's better or drives down prices
- Then buy a classic 560 ti (1 GB is fine if you won't SLI) or a real 570, not the failed-570 448.

speaking of.. have there been any stories of people unlocking any disable cores?

These are all GPUs that failed testing, not parts made from an excess supply of good chips. So even if they could be unlocked you probably would not want to.

not true. a lot of 6950 cards unlock to 6970. some produce artifacts at stock 6970 speeds, but at stock 6950 speeds, they're perfectly stable. sometimes you won't even be able to unlock. luck of the draw. i have 2 PNY gtx 465 cards that unlocked to gtx 470s (have 1 that did not unlock successfully) with no artifacting or stability issues. the cores may be disabled because they can't operate at stock speeds, or they may be disabled because they leave no OC headroom and will ONLY work at stock speeds.

i'm not one that overclocks, so if i could get a couple extra cores that will unlock and work at standard 560 clocks, i'm all for a free upgrade 🙂

I like the 560 Ti 2GB standard version, over the 448 core any day. It has better cooling / power features and costs significantly less.

I bought the EVGA Classified version for the 448 core on launch day for $305 CAD and I don't regret it. Certainly, if you use large resolutions then I think the 2 GB memory for the regular GTX560 ti will help, but generally I find that 1.25 GB memory is good enough. The rest is about core speed in which case the 448 cores will out perform regular 560 ti by far.

The EVGA Classified or the MSI power edition is a beast for OCing. At stock its only several percentage below a gtx 570. I can't speak for the other cards but my card has done really well in OCing. It came with a stock voltage of 1.063V@797 MHz core speed. I was able to stabilize it with a lower stock voltage of 1.05V@860 MHz. I'm using EVGA precision to OC and the highest stable OCing I achieved was 955 MHz@1.1V.

It is not often during my searches for information I find myself needing to stop, register and comment, but this is god awful. This page is full of AMD fanboys with no clue what they are talking about. First, the 560 ti 448 core is not a fail chip, it like the GTX 570 is a scaled back GF110 (GTX 580, cut back to 570, now cut further down to this) So to sum up the question that blew straight over you AMD tards heads, no it will not be unlockable, as you would have a GTX 580 -_-.

Perhaps Nvidia has a small collection of GF110 GPUs with two bad SMs
The article you linked even got NVIDIA to admit there are some GPUs with bad SMs. (Disclaimer, it does say AND to fill a niche in the market, but they admit to both being true)

Anyways, I didn't see anyone praising AMD in the article when I glanced through. Saying that the 560 ti 448 is a not-quite functioning 570 is true.

On a different note, welcome to the forums.

I just bought a GTX 560 "non ti" and I think its a great card. Runs faster than my 5850 in BF3 and I like the fact that I can "Alt tab" out of things without having the extensive lag like I noticed on all the AMD cards.

I don't think that is an AMD issue. At least when I had a 4830 set alt-tab just whipped right out of the game to the next window.

I just skimmed...but did see most saying get an AMD...or wait for AMD stuff to drop. Just saying...I was looking for a Nvidia specifically for my needs either way. But just felt like throwing that out there. I did see after the fact what you were saying about the questionable source or reason for missing SM's or whatnot but didn't feel need to ninja =P.

PS. nobody called the 570 a not quite functional 580...though.
PPS. that quote does say perhaps...and is editorialized as such.

Could be an AMD on Intel issue. I noticed this when I switched to Intel. I built AMD setups with ATI cards for years if you look at my posting history. Never encountered this issue until recently.

GTX 560 Ti 448 core is definitely better than a GTX 560 Ti, but of course it's a little slower than a GTX 570 or 580 at the same clocks.

The 1.2GB RAM may be factor if you game at high resolutions with lots of AA, but in practice 1.2GB RAM is probably enough for a GF110 with 448 cores. I can play BF3 at 2560x1440, Ultra settings, FXAA on high (no MSAA), and my card is fine (~1GB video RAM usage).

I did hit the video RAM limit running the Heaven benchmark at 2560x1440, maxed out tessellation, and 8xAA/16xAF. Dropping it down to 4xAA only uses ~900MB. That being said, fps in Heaven are really not high enough to be considering using high levels of AA anyway.

The GTX 560 Ti 448 core is a good card for the money IMO, but it does have some pretty stiff competition from the Radeon 6950 as well as NVIDIA's own GTX 570 for about $50 more. Shop around, and see what you can find.

Unless you're going SLI, the 2GB isn't much use compared to 1 GB.

2GB is a necessity already with Rage. It will be more so in the future. I think that the GTX560Ti 2GB will be a good card for a long time. However, it may be a good idea to replace the default cooler or at least remove and replace the stock TIM with AS remover and purifier kit and AC MX2 respectively (although you'll still be stuck with stock TIM under the IHS). Also, use and configure eVGA precision or afterburner to make the fan speed go up at a lower temp than it normally does. I adjusted mine to ramp up to 100% at 75C and to 55% at 60C.

By this logic you should be recommending a GTX 580 because the GTX 570 is just a "failed" GTX 580. The GTX 570 is actually more cut down from a GTX 580 than a 560Ti 448 is from a GTX 570.

GTX 560Ti 448 - 448cores/320-bit memory interface
GTX 570 - 480cores/320-bit memory interface
GTX 580 - 512 cores/384-bit memory interface

A failed chip is a failed chip. They're not down clocked or disabled to make this model. For whatever reason the chips failed testing and were put off to the side in storage and now Nvidia is using them instead of recycling them. So in addition to everything else this is a limited run card.

All of this may be true, but none of that makes the GTX 560Ti 448 core a worse card than the GF114 based GTX 560Ti.

The idea of a "failed" high end chip being binned for a lower spec card as somehow worse than a lower spec chip that is fully functional is just odd to me.

This is the way this industry works, and it's not only AMD and NVIDIA that do it. Do you think the people that bought a $1k Core i7 3960X cpu feel bad because their 6-core, fastest desktop processor in the world is a "failed" 8-core Xeon? I doubt it...

Along those same lines, you probably shouldn't feel too bad for owning a 6970, although your chip probably didn't qualify to be one of the cherry picked chips on a 6990.. because it's fat, and its parents didn't love it.
/end GLadDOS

I think the 560 TI 448 core is an ok card at stock speed, I'm just not crazy about Nvidia's prices.

I just don't think people should be recommending it to be unlocked or SLI'd at a later date. Because a lot of people who don't know the back story will think they can try unlocking its failed cores or plan to SLI later not realizing its a limited run card.

As for my 6970, I'm happy with it. I ran at a 900mhz for the first few months I had it. I've taken it up to 950mhz stable in a cold room. I run it at stock now because I can't keep it cool enough with an OC on air and I don't care to do water cooling.

I was obviously teasing about the 6970, it is a good card no doubt.

I do see the point about the GTX 560Ti 448 possibly being an iffy card if one plans on SLI'ing it with another one in the future. It is possible that they might no longer be available.

IMO, if you're looking at best bang for the buck in $250-300 range the GTX 560Ti 448 or a 6950 is the way to go, not a GTX 560Ti 2GB.
