keys, that is the weakest analogy I think I've ever heard. Comparing silicon (extremely common substance that everyone knows is common) to a part that Nvidia knew was in tight supply? Yeah. Good one.
I am in evga's step-up program, and they only held twenty cards for that program. I am in a queue, and have been told it could be several weeks before I'm up.
I am trying to stay on-topic here, discussing the issue of availability of Nvidia's current top card. I'm sorry you feel you have to go on the defensive to protect your precious Messiah Nvidia Rollo, but you have attacked (enthusiastically, I might add) ATI for pulling this exact stunt! Now that Nvidia does it, you are defending them. Once again, the fact that anyone actually respects your opinion on these boards is beyond me. You are a hypocrite, plain and simple.
You have gall to say that my pointing out that Nvidia was being dishonest is "trolling"? You practically make that accusation against ATI every day.
I am happy with my 7800GTX, and don't plan on changing to the X1800XT. When did I ever state that? I simply commented that the X1800XT is available right now. I purchased an evga card and am in the step-up program. For some reason, you are trying to say I have no right to be upset that I might have to wait a couple of months to actually get a product that was supposedly "hard launched".
As to why I'm looking for the 7800GTX 512MB when I already have a 7800GTX, I was within the 90 day period (was on day 86) for the step-up program, and I'm looking at less than $200 to upgrade (based upon the price I paid for my 7800GTX). Considering it looks like I'll get COD2 thrown in for that price, it seems like a good deal to me.
Eh? And what, pray tell, are GDDR3 memory modules made of? Kryptonite? No. They are made with silicon, the extremely common substance that everyone knows is common.
Why couldn't it be that Samsung promised NV more chips than they are actually delivering? So Nv had 4000 GTX512's at launch, and they all sold. There will be more as Samsung gets crackin on those memory modules.
How is this analogy. You order a PC from Dell, and order the latest and best offerings they have. Including a state of the art 26" LCD widescreen (just an example). You pay for next day shipping, but receive word that because of your screen option, your shipment may be delayed due to availablility of the option. Is it Dells fault for offering this screen without having enough for everybody on demand? Or is it Samsung AGAIN who provides Dell with these screens at a trickle rate.
Give em a chance for christ sake. Samsung will ramp up the production and you will have your GTX512. Call it a hard launch, soft launch, chewy with crunchy center launch, I don't really care what you call it.

1. ATI launched X1800XL & X1800XT. Had availability about 5-6 days after this launch for the XL. And nothing for another month for the XT.
2. Nvidia launched the 7800GTX. Had availability on launch day and vendors even started leaking/gouging the consumer 2 days prior to launch.
3. So tell me. How is this the exact same stunt that you mentioned?
EDITed #4 out. It wasn't nice.
