I thought I'd share this with everyone. It's yet another, "mounting my CPU closed-loop cooler to my GPU". I bought a refurb MSI GTX 480 for $160 shipped around 3 weeks ago. It performed better than my unlocked 6950, but it ran so hot. I was hitting 95C under load, and it sounded like an airplane was landing in my room. So, I yanked a H60 out a i3-540 system (which I am going disassemble and sell off anyway) and decided to get this mounted onto my card. I bought a custom bracket to fit, along with a 92mm fan onto it. Anyway, pictures below!
The IHS on the 480 is huge... so I decided to try this X TIM application. I was seriously considering removing the IHS, but I wasn't sure if it would work the bracket I ordered, since there is a "space" requirement as the bracket mounts to the bottom of the H60.
Here is my H60, with a 92mm fan and filter attached. I placed the fan on top, because of the copper heatsinks below were too tall to fit below.
And here it is installed on the GTX 480.
And finally, inside of the case! It was a very tight fit. On another forum, some one gave me a tip to flip the radiator (hoses come in from the bottom) so any air would get trapped in it as opposed to continuously circulate through the loop.
So my results : (at 75% fan and pump speed)
Idle : 35-40C depending on ambient
Unigine Extreme Load : 70-73C depending on ambient. PCB reads 55-60C.
And the best part of all of this... It is quiet!!! I am now running the card at 850 core (1.1v on the core) and 2000 memory, which puts me around stock 580 performance. I tried max voltage (1.13) and 900 core, but Unigine crashed. So I'll keep it where it is now.
