And when most choose a card, this is the most important factor, unless you have a htpc box.

That's like saying when choosing a woman all that matters is breast size. It doesn't matter if she's 50 lbs. overweight. :p

You are just so much in denial. Actually take the time to read posts and people's opinions. There are lots of other considerations by most posters here.

As long as she shaves. :D is cheap and performs well. I'll marry her. :)

1. I asked for simple benchmarks comparing 2 GPUs. Got that.
2. Did not list my CPU because that is not my limiting factor, because as you said "in all my years" here i knew that. If i started out "I bought a dell.." that it would be different. :p
3. Core2quad@3.3ghz

Bought the Evga "super overclocked" one http://www.newegg.com/Product/NewPro...82E16814130568, I forgot a had a $35 off credit for something at newegg to use, plus I will sell that old card to friend for $75 so comes out to a worth while upgrade. :D

Good upgrade, but for 270$ and 240$ AR you could have scored a gtx470. Use your 35$ credit and thats a gtx470 for 205$.

That would have been my choice if I knew you had a quad core cpu.

They have a Evga gtx470 with 10 percent off and a 20$ rebate also. 270$!
One more choice would have been the XFX5850 for 245$ and thats with no rebate!

250 bucks to get 15-20 percent more performance in some games than your current card? heck in some cases you will get basically zero increase. oh well its your money and you clearly had your mind made up to buy the card no matter what. most of us gtx260 owners will hold on to our cards until we can get a real upgrade.

Sc2 only uses 2 cores max. Your gpu isn't the issue in sc2 atleast.

I believe his point was: the card has excellent FPS/$, but you are looking at an upgrade, which means the question of "how much of an improvement will I see" also comes into play.
"upgrading" to an inferior card or a similar performing or even very slightly faster card that has excellent FPS/$ is not a good choice.

Yah i got the 460 so did not have to fork over for a power supply though. I got a 550watt one, most places a read said the 470 need 600-650watt. Did not want to spend $100+ on one just for that upgrade.

Hey, thats the right thing to do. Just add some voltage, overclock that sucker to 900 core and you have 95 percent of a gtx 470 anyway. :)

Good luck and don't forget to come back and tell us how the upgrade is for ya.

I can tell you for a fact that GTX470 does not need a 600 W PSU. I have compiled a list of 11 reviews from the most prevelant websites online before upgrading. GTX470 + Core i7 920 @ 3.2-3.6ghz would on average require 380-390 Watts from the PSU. This means any high quality 500W PSU is sufficient for a GTX470 + an overclocked Core i7. I am running an even higher overclocked i7 860 @ 3.9ghz + 470 on a 520W.

Still, GTX460 overclocked is just as fast, if not faster than a stock 470. Both cards are good. BTW, GTX470, much to my surprise, only gets to 76-77*C at 66 percent fan speed at load and idles 38-40*C at only 40 percent fan speed and 41*C at 32 percent fan speed. Therefore, when ALL Fermi cards were tested for the last 3 months, not a single person had enabled a proper manual fan profile. Temperatures of 94*C are impossible to have unless you leave your fan speeds at 45-48 percent or so.

I have a GTX 260[216] also and have been following the video card section here for quite a while now. The op situation is sort of similar to mine except I have a 22" monitor and play at 1680x1050. My cpu is an i-7 920@3.360ghz,psu is a PCP+C 610wt.
My only reason for an upgrade would be for DX11 and maybe a few more fps for Crysis[I don't really play it that much]
I was going to completly skip upgrading but then the 460's came out and they sound right up my alley. After reading this though I may hold off for a while and see if prices go down on the 5850's or 460's cause the old 260[evga] is still working very good..
If I got Just Cause 2 would that tax my 260 at 1680x1050?
Thanks

according to tech report a gtx460 1gb will give you ONE more fps over your gtx260. save your money for now.
