How does this card compare to GTX275?

Thats hard to say because some benchmarks are direct x 11 vs the gtx 275's direct x 10.
I'd say about 15/20% faster.
If I had a gtx 275, I wouldn't upgrade unless I planned to overclock the gtx 460 to the max.

Edit: AHHH, me and the russian think alike 🙂

Seems these chips are A1 silicon. Does that mean we should see higher clocks from these chips in a few months?

The picture shows the numbers 1020A1. That means year 10, 20th' week or June 1'st 2010 is when the chip was made. They rushed these suckers out the door!

"As you would expect the new GF104 GPU is quite a bit smaller than the original GF100 - and it is an odd rectangular shape based on the dimensions of the heat spreader resting over it. Also note that we are testing A1 silicon; a notable achievement for anyone familiar with processor design. "

Check out the rig Ashley in my sig. I have already ordered half of the parts for the build.

However, the motherboard I have chosen, supports Crossfire. But....does it support SLI as well ?

It probably don't, I am just asking because I know some boards do support both setup's.

To be honest, I was ready to post and state "You can polish a turd, but it is still a turd"......However.....this is not the case, and I am completely surprised by the performance of the GTX460.

I am now contemplating whether to go with my original idea for a
card, see Ashley .... .And now I am kind of undecided "again" on which to purchase. This card is looking really good and mighty tempting.

Would it be wise to go with GTX460 SLI ? Or should I just stick with what I have already chosen ?

Thanks Nvidia for putting this card out. I like it and it is now "probably" on my purchase list to finish my build.

Oh, one more thing. If I did decide to SLI two of these "256-bit cards" ....I probably pretty much know the answer already, but I would have to select a different motherboard right ?

Im impressed. This might even destroy the 5850 space.

5850 at $250, which is like $20 less than launch price should do the trick.

5850 at $260 makes you think what you want.

Likewise 5830 at $170-190 should make you think what you want to.

So, as long as supply is enough, we should finally see decent prices.

Hmm... looks like the 460 SLI will be my next purchase at this rate. The scaling seems to be quite remarkable as always with SLI.

Or a 5850 with a price drop. Thank goodness I held off until now.

Guess what Charlie D at semiaccurate decided to do on GTX 460 launch day? Republish his old Bumpgate articles from 2008. I didn't think it was possible to sink any further but he somehow manages!

I am betting that a much higher clocked GF104 will soon replace the current GPU in the GTX465 (since nvidia likes to create naming confusion)

Cynism aside, very impressive card, the GTX460 positively surprised me, its fast and it consumes less power, and its cheap.

Yea 460 SLI looks very nice. Good temps, low power consumption, OC headroom, performance, and price!

The performance isn’t that great based on the specs, but the thermals and noise levels are quite good for the performance. I hope the make a GTX485 from this, and use the same cooler design too. That blower is simply terrible, as Zotac’s version shows.

Yeah, the standard cooler is very nice...it's like an OEM Intel CPU cooler. I've got one on my ATI 4850 and it's completely silent next to my quiet case fans.

Damned EVGA went with the blower for their 1GB unit.
