GTX 460 prices take a nose dive at Newegg

460 768 is indeed a good buy, and it may not last at the price, so people should act quickly if they need it.

Hmm, why do you say that, price usually always falls, it doesn't go back up unless there is a shortage, and in this case, it wouldn't even go up in a shortage since AMD can beat them on price / performance.

I read at Tomshardware who says AMD sent them email suggesting that nVidia won't keep the price after 3 weeks.

Obviously I dont know if its true, but its not coming from nowhere neither. Fermi is not cheap to make afterall.

AMD put speculation out there that nvidia would only be implementing these drops for three weeks. That makes little sense to me.

And for the past generation, video cards have gone up and down in a bizarre and fairly unpredictable fashion.

So it just comes down to whether you believe the 470's performance lead is worth the extra power and heat right? Can you overclock the 6870 to give it better performance than the 470?

From the review compendium thread last night I found about three that actually tested HD 6870 OC capability. It seems at most you can get an 8-10% OC out of them. In other words, they're pushed pretty far at stock. Even a moderate OC on a GTX 470 would outstrip it - and you wouldn't have to buy a space heater for the computer room this winter either. 😉

So... what happened to those deals? 🙁 I see a single (ECS brand) 460 1GB for $170 after rebate, and then a Zotac for $190 AR, and the rest are all $199 (at the Egg anyhow).

Since the 6850 is $180 without rebates, nv needs to try a little harder.
Agreed.

6850 and 460 1G is about the same performance wise. 6850 has more features (3+ displays, eyefinity comes to mind) and less power draw.

I think 6870 and 6850 are good competitor with 470 and 460 1GB. (We will have to see how long nVidia can afford to hold these prices)

As of right now, the real meat is 460 768MB, which is priced at $150. AMD has no real card to compete at this price. (5770 is $125)

I dont see advantages of 460 1G and 470, consider they perform similar to 6850 and 6870, have similar price, while draws more power, and has only two display output.

Now 460 768MB is in a different position, its quite attractive at $150. It would be a great time to buy it. AMD suggested that nVidia will reverse the price after 3 weeks.

It's been sitting at 160 in store, no rebate at Microcenter for almost two months. Highly doubt it's going up.

huh, I have been to microcenter a lot and built 2 computers from there. I didn't see $160 460 1G? or maybe its just Dallas store?

anyway, there will be taxes. newegg is still better. 🙂

Sorry, I meant the 767meg was at $160. It was just in response to the forwarded memo that suggested these price cuts (like a $150 768 meg 460) were temporary. The current prices are only marginally less than the lowest prices seen before these "cuts".

I'm from California so I still have to pay taxes even through Newegg. Still, the price is very good given that they're two of the 1 GB versions of the 460.

SAme here. I have a 460 768 right now but would love to jump up to the 1gb if Amazon carries a good deal on one of these bad boys.

Now you can buy one instead of making a thousand threads about it!

Thread crapping is not acceptable.

lol, BTW to others discussing 460 768mb, it's 145AR now on egg. this card has really dropped price. NV probably will stop making it altogether soon since they are not making much off such a price.

Mabe they use defective gtx 460 chips and at least make something from them. Mabe they will drop further and become 5770's competition.
The 5770 will be around till next year.

GTX460-768's main job is not to make money, it's to make market share. The big money-makers are other models, especially professional cards like Quadros. So NV could even price them below cost and be good. *prays that NV prices them below cost*
