GTX 295 Temps: Too high?

Wondering what the comfort range is for this card?

It idles around 60c and sits between 75 and 78 under load in games. Decent airflow in case with GPU fan on auto. These temps seem okay for this card or should I look into upping fan speed?

I don't think so. GPUs have a very high tolerance for heat compared to CPUs. If 75-78 is full load there's no problem at all. That's actually incredibly surprising given two cards sandwiched so close together.

My temps are similar, but I've been wondering what would be a stable temp is you wanted to lower the fan speeds and run it a little warmer? With my current fan profile it just gets way too loud. Would 90c be stable?

You could try running the card at 90C and see what happens. It would probably be stable, but I wouldn't feel confortable keeping it at such high temperature.

I haven't checked core temps on mine yet but this is the first card I've had that would burn your hand OUTSIDE the box. The exhaust plate of this thing gets unbelievably hot.

Viper GTS

Kinda glad I have waited soo long to upgrade my machine. I think waiting untill the directx 11 cards are out should be the best choice for myself and many others. I just hope they are not too expensive.

Why is that? What did you accomplished by doing this? Games played at low settings all the time, is a good thing? 😉

my fan sits at 52, temps are like 41, 43, urs is a bit high

temps 41/43 at 52% fan?? Is this in furmark maxed or is this in windows screensaver? I'm betting on the latter

so I set up my fan profile to let it go up to 90c before ramping to 100% fan speed, but I guess I screwed up somewhere and the fan never went above 50% as I played crysis warhead for ~30 minutes. Temps went up to at least 95c (maybe higher, it only records a few minutes at a time in rivatuner) and it was fully stable and so beautifully quiet. I'm gonna have to play around to fix this, but man it was so nice having a quiet pc while I play.

Looks perfect to me.

Well no its not a good thing but I can deal. Got burned on this machine when I built it and have been watching the forums for a long time and every new series that comes out yall bash like no tommorow which makes me think that waiting has been a good thing.

TBH I am like the other poster my temps idle are very low at idle 40's and max 65 degree playing L4D and Fall Out 3 for hrs....I do have an optimised case for airflow and a 250mm fan blowing directly onto the GPU. I must set up my fan profiles BTW.

your seems pretty high at idle even... mine (MSI GTX295) sits at 42C-47C at idle and gets to around 68-70C underload while playing games. My fans never seem to go past 41%, go figure.

I may take the time to setup my own rivatuner fan profiles so the fans turn on progressively as temps get up (40%->all,50%->50C,60%->55C,70%->60C,80%->65C,90%->70C,100%->75C+).

One thing might be related to downclocking. The drivers I'm using have issues with downclocking so when 'idle' (ie. on desktop) my card stays at max clock which probably explains the idle temps a bit.

just as a reference, I am using 185.20 drivers

Haven't checked those out yet, but was looking to find new ones. Currently using 181.22 which have confirmed downclocking issue with 295, and apparently so do the new ones just released (182.06). My idle is actually around 50 before I enter a 3D app, and 50 isn't too bad. My case has decent airflow but my last few fans are coming early next week to replace the last 3 stock ones (which includes a terrible one blowing onto GPU). Should get into the mid to high 40s at idle which is fine, and hopefully bring load down to 70.

For now, once I enter a 3D app and close it afterwards, my idle then goes to 60 (like my OP) which I attribute to the card not downclocking after a 3D app. I'll give your drivers a try once I get my fans set up and see from there. Optimistic it should be improved.

45 idle for me, although when the comp is on for a few hours it gets up to about 55-60.

When normal gaming, 75-80C
Heavy DX10 super high settings, abount 90C
Trying to run Warmonger at 16Q AA and 16XAF = 105C

Hmm, I just read something and tried it out for myself. I think STEAM is being read as a 3D app and prevents downclocking. My GPU was idling at 50 all morning (4 hours) as I hadn't played any games since booting up, but a few minutes ago I loaded up Steam to check something and noticed my temps immediately began to climb. Once I hit 55 I closed Steam and it has been slowly declining over the past few minutes and is at 51 right now.

Not sure if this is common knowledge. Regardless, does anyone know of a way to somehow edit settings to remove Steam as a 3D app?

Does the same on mine, I think it's due to the driver recognizing it as 3D.

Anyway, I get similar temps to others here. Idles around 55-60C with 25% fan speed, loads over 90C in Crysis (this is at its current overclock of 666/1440/1215).

has anyone come up with drivers besides the 185.20 that supports auto downclocking? the 185.20 makes company of heroes graphics flash and therefore unplayable. i guess it's still in beta
