The power reduction is impressive, but I'm still glad I didn't wait any longer and instead picked up a GTX260+.

My next consideration will be 40 nm parts from both vendors.

The GTX 260 is nice, especially at a bit more than 200. I'm waiting for a card with that kind of power, but only needing one 6pin power connector. :D My Dell can only handle so much.

Is that the Inspiron 530 that a lot of us jumped on with the 24" monitor way back in March? I think it has a 350 watt, and you are right, that would be pushing it with a 260.

Nope, it's an XPS 410. It has a 375W (dual 12V @ 18A) with one 6pin connector. Running a 512 8800 GTS right now, which is plenty for the most part.

From what I can tell, GT212 will be the midrange card based on the 40nm process to replace G92 and its derivatives while the GT216 is the next high end 40nm chip to replace what ever is at the high end. Interesting for sure and could be a good reason to wait instead of jumping on the "GT206" short term solution.

My theory is that the GT212 will be something like 192SP/384bit card.

You posted a comment on my response to Jaredpeace's question. In that response, I was simply trying to provide [Jared] a brief explanation of why I decided to sell my previous solution. Jared is knowledgeable yet humble in his posts, and is one of the kinder souls here. Because of that I respect him and felt I should at least provide a reason for selling. Otherwise, I'd not have provided information that I knew could upset an ATI fanboy or provoke a debater.

My response to your post was sarcastic and for that I apologize. But don't voice assumptions that I'm confused or lack experience/knowledge on a subject. Just because I choose to forgo a debate doesn't mean I lack the ability. Case and graphics cooling is an interest of mine and I have years of experience in the area. I've installed dozens of aftermarket cooling solutions and have experimentied heavily with case airflow. I also have years experience as project manager in the toxic particulate and dust collector/baghouse industry. I've gleened information from some pretty smart people in my lifetime.

Peace..

Lets clarify a few things.

1) I don't care if you or anyone else prefer ATI or nVidia. I honestly don't care what you purchase and use for a graphics card. I believe everyone should have the freedom to pick what they desire. It doesn't offend me that someone would pick a 260 over a 4870. In fact, I would probably do the same thing if I were to purchase a card right now. Almost did last night, but I just don't need the power right now and with new cards around the corner...

2) I don't think you are stupid. I believe there are some things you don't understand, and at the same time there are some things that I don't understand. This applies to every single person, except maybe Stephen Hawking - I kid, as he too would be ignorant of certain things.

3) Peace. :D
