Is it worth going from GTX 260 SLi to a single GTX 570?

I'm upgrading my system from a E8500 to most likely an i5 2500k and wondered if I should go for the 570 or just wait for the next set of video cards to come out? Running at 1920x1200 and mostly doing this for Battlefield 3.

I much prefer a single card to a dual card configuration due to consistency/quality of frame rates and gameplay. In a performance comparison, the GTX 570 will generally be faster as well, especially in new games. This is what Anandtech Bench has for comparison: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/306?vs=318 . Eeven assuming 100% scaling on the GX 260, which is a reach, you can see the GTX 570 is still faster. That said, if your games are still playing fine I would wait for the new cards to drop from AMD before making a purchase. They're supposedly coming out in a month or so.

Ask yourself a simple question... Do you have framerate issues in any of your games or have you had to lower settings with your current GPUs to get acceptable framerates. If the answer is no to both of them then don't bother upgrading yet. If on the other hand the answer is yes then yes a GTX 570 would be a nice upgrade from your current hardware.

Actually, this bench may be more useful: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/168?vs=158

The GTX295 is slightly faster than 260SLI, and the GTX480 is about the same as a GTX570 (http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/309?vs=306). Therefore you can extrapolate that the 570 is maybe 10-20% faster than 260SLI on average, but with more consistent performance and much better minimums.

Not a particularly cost-effective upgrade - probably only worth it if you're having problems with new games, heat, or noise.

IMHO, now is not a good time to upgrade. If you're not experiencing any problems with your GTX 260 sli setup, I'd probably ride it out until the newer architecture arrives.

Nvidia fermie cards are a big gamble, at this point, with a lot of people experiencing TDR's especially with the 5xx series.

The 260s don't run DX11, so that's a big point. But for BF3, I'm just running a single 260 and doing fine. I imagine your SLI is giving you good rates on high. Even if you want to get a 570, it might be smart to hold off until after AMD releases their next lineup.

Op i did a upgrade from a e8200 and a radeon 6750 to a 1100t and a gtx570 and i get excellent 1920x1080 BF3 performance and i am very happy.

So yes i would get a gtx570 and a 2500k but if you can wait i would hold out for the 7000 series but i am not one to wait unless theres benchmarks and official reports at time of purchase of a new gpu.

While I don't doubt you have excellent performance, I don't exactly follow how your example is comparable to the OP since that 6750 is slower than 1 GTX 260 never mind 2 GTX260.

The OP CPU upgrade seems quite a decent move though.

Simple,i explained i am very very happy with performance of this set up.

I went from a oced e8200 which is comparable to his cpu to a 1100t or in his case he could go to a 2500k .

The card of course is up to him if he wants a gtx570 now or wait personally if i was in his shoes i would grab the 2500k now and if he chooses to wait for a new card that would work.

If he really wants a gtx570 my previous post just explained i was very happy with the upgrade and he would be too....all up to the OP if he can wait or not.

If you want to wait for cards that have no release date, wait.

If you feel the need to upgrade, go for it.

If you feel content with your 260s, keep 'em.
