I'm beginning to think that all of these HD48XX vs GTX2X0 threads are kind of rediculous. People need to realize that what is going on here is a big pissing match. First of lets look at some facts. Nvidia released powerful cards at a high price. AMD released a an equally impressive set of cards at a bargain price relatively speaking.
The only thing nvidia could do to answer was drop the price of their cards to remain competetive, which still wasnt't enough. What to do next? oh I get it.... lets "drop in" the core 216 and "drop out" the "old" GTX 260. Further more, the more recent benchmarks are for a the GTX260 core 216 SC (superclock) as if their plain ole GTX260 core 216 wasn't enough. All the while the AMD is still happily pushing out MAINLY Vanilla cards albeit some with different amounts of memory.
I think AMD has a lot of confidence in the current generation of Radeons and doesn't need to release a HD4870 1024 stream processor extreme BBQ edition. I can admit the current Geforce cards are quite nice and awesome solutions for any enthusiast or gamer alike. It's too bad that the Radeons are tarnished with driver issues in select titles. Atleast you can "bypass" some of the more serious problems such as the Far Cry 2 hitching using the GFX_max FPSX command.
I feel bad for the sap who already has a GTX260 and buys another one down the road only to realize that they won't SLI since the second one he bought is a core 216(not entirely sure if this is the case). On top of all this I think Nvidia destroyed the image of the GTX280 cause it still costs just a little bit less than sli'ed GTX 260's but low and behold a single GTX260 core 216 SC card is bitting at it's heels. Things just don't add up. This whole TWIMTBP branding is doing great things for Nvidia since they are in cahoots with game developers. I can only imagine how well the Radeons would be performing under the same kinda situation.
This is just some random ramblings which I'm sure some people's panties are gonna get soaked over but I am very much on the fence on which Team is better. I've owned lots of both. Anyhow' I do enjoy the whole Rebellion vs. the Empire motif going on here. I think in a month or two AMD will get on the ball again with some decent driver performance increases. But I also think shortly there after we'll see the green team discontinue the GTX260 core 216 and conjure up another incarnation of it...... say a GTX260 core 216 SC Mass Confusion edition
/ grabs popcorn and dims the lights
I think that's enough random rambling and brain-dumping for one thread...
