As the title suggests, which one would be better for gaming?

i play at 1440p @ 144hz but anything close to 60 is acceptable, so a strict 144fps is not mandatory.

my system specs are as follows
  • i7 8700(non K)
  • Asus Prime Z370
  • 32 GB DDR4 3200 Mhz Cas 16 Ram (2 x 16 GB)
  • 240 GB SSD (Boot drive)
  • 1440p @ 144hz/165hz oc IPS G-Sync monitor.
  • 4 TB HDD
  • Corsair HX750 PSU
i am from one of those countries where it costs a fortune to build a pc of this scope so i wont be upgrading anytime soon and will mostly skip 2 ~ 3 generations of GPU's before i think of another GPU upgrade.

As you can see, i already have an SSD as my boot drive. So should i go for a GTX 1080 + secondary SSD where i can store my programs and games or just use the money and buy a GTX 1080 ti ? am being torn between the decision

i like 1080 ti cause i wont be upgrading anytime soon give or take 5 years, so that 11GB Vram + its 20% performance boost compared to a GTX 1080 will help me last a bit longer than a GTX 1080.

but on the other hand i also like the idea of having things respond instantly, all my programs opening up in an instant, games with no loading time sounds intriguing.

I am an application developer, i game and work on my PC, work during day time and play a few hrs before bed and am a heavy weekend gamer. I also mod games as in make my own mods

i'll be playing heavily modded games like skyrim, fallout but i also play a lot of RPG's FPS, Simuation and RTS games.

sorry for wall of text. Its just i cant decide which is better, they both seems to be good options, oh between Selling off GPU and buying used ones is not an option in my country and this would be the final investment i'll be investing into my PC meaning i can no longer buy an SSD in future and be done with it, this stuff is just crazy expensive where i live so this will be final. So its either GTX 1080 + SSD or GTX 1080 Ti.

Edit - Updated system specs, included HDD and PSU.

Just buy the 1080ti since you already have your OS on a SSD.

I was just wondering if its worth shaving off few seconds from loading times from both applications and games by using an SSD. Like i have seen applications/programs starting up instantly with no loading time when installed on SSD, but once started its basically the same thing as HDD other than saving work progress before going to bed which is again instantaneous.

Only you can answer that. It's true most programs and games will load a little faster on a SSD. However, many (if not most) gamers install games on hard drives because of their size.

I guess it comes down to wanting more FPS with a more powerful video card, or shaving a few seconds off opening a game or program.

Why not buy the video card now, and buy another SSD another time?

Are you using your M.2 Socket 3 for your ssd? If not maybe get an optane ssd accelerator for your HD?

Quick second question, do you guys think its worth it to entirely skip on both SSD and 1080 Ti upgrade options and go for i7 8700K +High end cooler and OC it to 5.0 ghz than sticking to i7 8700(non k) ?

what i am trying to say is

i7 8700k @ 5.0ghz + Gtx 1080.

or

i7 8700 + GTX 1080 + 512 GB SSD.

or

i7 8700 + GTX 1080 Ti.
