I guess I'm daft. Been called worse. My Zotac GTX 1080 FE shipped this afternoon from Newegg and is due to be delivered on Thursday. I already received the EK GTX 1080 Acrylic/Copper full waterblock so after I receive the gpu and put the block on it and leak test, I'll report back some findings. The GTX 1080 will replace the GTX 980TI SC in my 5960x rig below. The GTX 980 TI SC will replace the 2 R9 290s in my 4790k rig below. The 290s will be sold.

Trust me I had a heck of a time snagging a 1080 from Newegg.

Yea, I dont know why people are so butthurt about this launch. It gives people who are willing to pay extra earlier access to the card. Anyone else is certainly free to wait until supply is better or AMD comes out with an alternative, (but again they are late to the game).

Just to be clear - neither do I really understand the angst 🙂 Essentially absurd to be judgemental as to how people chose to spend their spare money. Certainly plenty of people in the west have much more than enough to sanely cover this sort of purchase.

The person I was responding really did seem annoyed though.

I could give you a list of reasons, but I'd get warned for it. At least. I will say that most of the complaints aren't warranted. Price is the only area I can see having a problem with as these "mid range" 1070 and 1080 should be way cheaper considering GP102 is still yet to come. Titan should be 649.00
1080Ti 549.00
1080 399 to 425
1070 299 to 325
1060Ti 249.00
1060 199.00
1050 129-149

There's a good chance that - Titan aside as that obviously has a extreme premium pricing on it! - they'll look something like that next Spring when the 1080ti (fairly plausibly) launches.

Although the 970/80 sold so well that their pricing never really did come down.

these prices seem a bit off D:

Do you really think the 1080ti will be $100 less at launch than the 980ti?

Considering the the 1070 and the 1080 are $50-$150 more than their predecessors and Titan has already hit the $1K mark previously.

I'd guess it's more like...

Titan $999.00
1080Ti $799 (FE model first?)
1080 No need to speculate here
1070 " "
1060Ti $279 (Maybe a hundred dollar gap from 1070 @$379 is too much?)
1060 $229.00
1050 $149

Obviously I'm just countering made-up numbers with my own so I have no idea but I'll mark this and see how close I was.

Not sure where you see 100 bucks.
And I guess you guys skimmed?
These are what I think prices should be.

These rumors about possible GP102 Titan coming relatively soon (already this year) annoy me, cause they undermine my resolution to buy 1080, or rather 2 of them. Maybe i should wait for it and get just single Titan, or alternatively get just a single 1080 now and add Titan later...
if only there were some factual informations about it, not just rumors, which may or may not be true... if i knew, its coming already this fall, i would wait, if however its scheduled for next years March - May, i would just forget it and stick to my decision to go for 1080...

NV have had a very predictable yearly refresh for 5 straight years now.

It is very plausible that there will be a Titan hit around late Autumn/early Xmas. It was +6 months from 980 to Titan for Maxwell.

Major caveat - Titans are priced with a massive premium.

There will, equally inevitably, be a rather cheaper/maybe slightly cut down chip to follow the Titan. March/May next year sort of time seems very likely for that, as it would give NV their annual performance increase.

Christ.. apparently my 2gb 5850 can't even do more than 85hz @ 1440p, the struggle is real.

On the plus side it seems enough to run diablo 3 at max settings 1440p 60fps..

Pay early price premium for 1070/1080 or wait a month x_x

Just received My Zotac GTX 1080 FE this afternoon from Newegg. Spent the entire evening putting on the EK GTX 1080 fullblock and getting it running. Moved the EVGA GTX 980 TI SC with an EK block to my 4790k rig.

Gee......I wonder if there will be stock of regular 1080's by mid Fall/Early Winter.... 🙁

Easily I think. The FE's are starting to 'stick' in stock somewhat more and it seems like shipments of the custom stuff are starting.

There's rather a large backlog of preorders to clear on at least some of those though, so even once they're shipping in volume it'll take a little while to get them into normal stock.

Unless you are filthy rich, I would get the 1080 performance bump right now and then just decide now to skip the Titan altogheter and get the Ti in 9-12 months. That's certainly cheaper than your Titan gamble, and you'll get to enjoy the increased performance right now.

Yah even if a titan is coming out this year, or soon. Its going to be a massive price jump. I would not be surprised if they are $1000+ to start.

But yah, i wish it was the way it used to be with launches, day 1 available.

The whole Founders thing just screamed "We are short on stock but this is what we got atm".

Now I remember why I quit pc gaming a few years ago. Prices for ridiculous and I decided I was out. I refuse to spend half a grand or more on a gpu. Now a $700 gpu is normal? Geez.

For a good GPU, they have always been around $500 or so. At least since the 9800 GT that I remember.

Last premium gpu I bought was a gtx 580 Asus dc. Beast of a card but then the reality that I spent $500 on a video card dawned on me. That was the last time for me. Now people are willing to shell out $700 or even up to a $1000. I think I'd go buy a dirt bike or myself a new bicycle for that.

Yeah, its a lot of $$$. I mitigate the massive expenditure with gift cards. For birthdays and Christmas anyone who gets me gifts (Fam, Friends, whoever) knows to just get me Newegg gift cards. When I got two 780Tti's back when they released, I only needed a couple hundred on top of the gift cards I had saved. Just kept savin' em up since then and currently I have a bit over $1200 just waiting for a couple 1080's. Nice n easy and doesn't hit nearly as hard as just shelling out well over a grand.

....Also helps keep the gift of ugly sweaters, movies I already own and other oddball stuff at bay.
