Currently have:

GTS 250 SLi (1GB) setup.

Is it worth upgrading to:

GTX 470 (768MB), single card?

I can get this card for a good price, that's the reason I'm tempted, but how much quicker will it be?

Isnt a GTS 250 equal to a 9800GTX ? And two 9800GTX cards in SLI will equal a GTX280 ?

Just checked, your right, it's the GTX460 768mb. My bad.

As long as the GTS250 SLI scales reasonably well, that's not much of an upgrade. You will get a quieter setup and support for Tessellation and DX11. Personally, I'd consider stepping up to an HD6950 2GB or a GTX570. But it depends on what games/resolution you are gaming at and how much AA you like.

If you can sell the GTS250 cards and grab a GTX460 768mb for $30-40 of cash outlay, it may be OK to play with new hardware. The 460 will overclock to 900-950mhz at which point it will be faster than 2x GTS250 cards.

It is safe to say, that GTS250 SLI is about as fast as a single GTX285. So here you go.

GTX285=GTS250 SLI vs. GTX470

Imo, if you look at release benchmarks for cards you can add about 10% performance for both AMD and Nvidia cards. The gtx 470 would be a upgrade, but not really for the gtx 460~768.
And at this point, I'd buy the gtx 560 over the 470. Those are finally getting some price cuts. Nothing like the gtx 460 yet though.

Don't forget that BF:BC2 is a DirectX 11 game which the GTS 250 SLI does not support.

The GTS 250 are also manufactured at 55nm I believe while the GTX 470 is down to 40nm.

There are definitely heat and power tradeoffs with 2 GTS 250 so it can perform at the GTX 470 level. (queing another graphic)

What the?

How can a GTX 470 get beat by a GTX 285?

Shens.

Your not seeing a complete picture with 1 benchmark.
But here is partially why.
The gtx 285 is running dx10 the newer cards dx11
Both companies have made driver performance increases.
Nvidia even more, AMD used to be really favored in this game.
Here are results from the 6990 review.
Here even the 560 beats the gtx 470
