GTO2 vs GTO

I know that the GTO2 is being hailed as the best thing on the market right now but it looks like availability is limited. So, with the GTO2 having all 16 pipelines open, and the GTO with 12, is it still possible to softmod the GTO to 16 pipes, thereby matching the GTO2 which is in essence a X850 at heart??
 
The manufactures changed how the GTO was produced so you cant unlock the pipes now. You might was well go with the GTO2
 
If you are thinking of getting the GTO2. DO IT NOW!

The places that arn't sold out are jacking up the prices.


EDIT: When I ordered my card last night at 11:30 from this site the price was $208. Now it's $235.
 
The GTO is based off the R420 core (X800 series) while the GTO2 is based off the R480 core (X850 series). So, the GTO2 is much easier to unlock, and basically has a 100% success rate.
