Just received a note from ZipZoomFly, and another earlier from NewEgg. Just ordered a Sapphire x800GTO2 from ZZF for $229 shipped, 2nd day. NewEgg was back up to $269 for the OEM, rip off.

Well, status on ZZF says "packed". $229 with 2nd day shipping is a good price in my book, especially with the card's potential. Now I need to get rid of my X800xl :)

Hmmm, I have a x800xl, too, and haven't really paid much attention to these new GTO cards. Are they that much better than the x800xl's? I kinda assumed they were all about the same as my x800xl. True, I think they can unlock to a x850XT, but that only seems to be about 10% faster than the x800xl's.

Sorry for the dumb question. You just got me thinking if it worth it to try and sell my current card and upgrade.

Aaron - the Sapphire GTO2 actuall can be unlocked and overclocked to x850XT-PE specs, which would be MUCH faster than an x800xl. I jumped on this because they sell like hot cakes and are hard to find at a reasonable price. I should have it Friday, and at that time I will benchmark my stock x800xl, stock GTO2, unlocked GTO2, and GTO2 at x850XT-PE specs. I will post up the results.

I'll bookmark this thread so I can see your results mamisano. I am curious to see how far you are able to overclock your card. I can only get 474/580 out of my GTO2 with the stock cooler, but I got my VF700 ALCU in today. Hopefully I'll be able to get XT or XT PE core speeds finally.

Great :) - I am looking to find an aftermarket cooler myself. Not sure if I should go with an ATI Silencer 5 R2 or something else.

I recently got the Sapphire X800 GTO2 and modded it with a VF700-Cu.

After converting to 16 pipes, the max 100% stable overclock (using ATITool and it's automatic artifact detection) is about 513 MHz core and 595 MHz memory (at about 68 degrees C core temp).

When it was only 12 pipes (and stock cooler), both max overclocked memory and core where higher, but I don't have my notes in front of me now and I don't remember the exact speeds.

So, I run about 490 MHz core/ 567 Mhz memory for a 5% safety factor. (So, I'd have to cut it close to get up to X800 XT core speed, and can't reach full X850 XT speed at all).

As far as the stock cooler verses the VF700 goes, it seems like the temperatures aren't much cooler (for a given % fan speed setting). But, for a given fan speed, the VF700 seems much quieter. (The stock fan actually wasn't horrible, with most of the noise being a 'whooshing' air sound.)

I had moved this card from one system to another and that resulted in the Core temp dropping by about 9 degrees celcius. But I had already converted to the VF-700, so I can't tell if there would have been a bigger temp. difference between it and stock in the 'new' (cooler) system.
