I tried to get into Saint's Row 2 but everything about it felt like a backward step from GTA4. The graphics are only at the level of San Andreas, and the vehicle physics are really terrible.

Maybe if I'd played it before GTA4 came out it wouldn't be so bad.

I recall there being heavy rumors--and perhaps from a more credible source too--that the new GTAV would take place in LA. I think it leaked from a voice actor, or perhaps it was the act's agent or something.

Anyway, my point is I think the flavors of pop culture vary greatly from east coast to west coast and it would be really interesting to see Rockstar tackle the absurdities in LA, Hollywood and just how ridiculousness the celebrity has become. Think of it: The reality shows of old white ladies with too much money and time putting lasers to their faces, game shows, the serious decline of movie making (or the lack thereof) in the city, migration issues, movie star politicians, Marijuana dispensaries and gay marriage.

As someone who grew up out here and lives 1 hour from LA, I think it would be really interesting to see Rockstar tear it apart.

Geographically speaking I think they would have to condense the city and make their own form of LA--it just too big with a lot of boring spaces.

Man I'm really excited! 🙂

Based on previous games you would expect LA or Miami. But it would be cool if they tried somewhere new, I would love to see Baltimore like in The Wire, or Boston like The Departed.

I hope they use the voice acting/technology from LA Noire.

It's really hard to play any other game with characters talking since playing that game.

I would really rather see a new city than have Rockstar revisit something they've already done. Granted, GTA IV gave a great reinterpretation of Liberty City from GTA III. But I've already played GTA in Miami, LA and Vegas. I want something new. I like the idea of London, personally (yes, I realize one of the 2D top-down GTA games was in London, but it's a completely different game in 3D). It's a big city, there's tons of famous landmarks, you've got a seedy underbelly and it's had a massive influence on pop culture. Sadly, that will never happen, since American audiences would be unable to understand a single word of dialogue. But wouldn't it be great? They could pull missions straight out of movies like Snatch, Lock Stock and two Smoking Barrels, Layer Cake or The Italian Job, not to mention the actions of groups like the IRA... But our national xenophobia is going to keep a game that awesome from existing. Damn you!

You could do a lot of cool secret agent type stuff in London too since MI6 is based there, the Iranian embassy siege happened in London and so did the Russian assassination of Litvinenko.

pssh, a GTA European tour would be awesome! Let me ride a bike around Amsterdam, steal a gondola in Italy. Something cool.

I wonder when we'll get a GTA style game that covers a continent, or hell, a planet. I think by the time games are big enough to be entire star systems we'll have some sort of VR...

I've been having a blast with RDR GoTY edition and would like to see what they can do with GTA V. Seems like GTA4 was just missing something to make me want to keep playing it.

I would do a happy dance if they would implement a "bribe" system where you could just pay some ridiculous amount of money to skip missions. Specifically the ones where you have to drive completely across the map, pick up some dude, then drive back to where you started. FFS its GTA, the guy you pick up is a thug, steal a damned car asshole and meet me half way.

Then you have to take said thug to some bank, where of course the FBI is waiting outside with a damned tank, who instantly turns you in Niko dust. Oh, and you have to do all of this in 35 seconds.

Bastards.

Stuff like that is the exact reason while I'll play non-stop for two weeks, then not touch it for three months because I get so pissed off.

The way they so accurately replicated the feel of NYC in GTA4 made me love the game 1000x more. Like they went so far as to accurately model the onramps to highways. They did an awesome job condensing the various neighborhoods while even keeping everything relatively geographically accurate.

If they do halfway as good a job with LA, residents are going to love it that much more.

Yay?

GTA4 wasn't totally horrible but it was nowhere near as fun as the Saints Rows games.

I hope they make more like Vice City.

This but with GTASA style gameplay. I didnt mind the fake physics of SA, I actually preferred it to GTA4 which bored the crap out of me for its attempt to be realistic. I am looking forward to this but am looking forward to SR3 more!

For those who liked Vice City or San Andreas more. If you own GTA IV on PC. 3, Vice City & San Andreas are being ported over by the Mod Community. Also ways to enhance the original games too: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2201523

Why was GTA 4 called 4? I mean.... https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_%28series)#Games

Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto London 69 <-- It did get an official release.

GTA London 61 <-- Only available as a download.

GTA 2

GTA 3

GTA Vice City <-- Which would be 6? LOL. If you count London & the downloadable Prequel.

GTA Advance on GBA

GTA San Andreas

GTA Liberty City Stories

GTA Vice City Stories

GTA 4

GTA 4 The Lost and Damned

GTA China Town Wars

GTA 4 The Ballad of Gay Tony

Whew.

I bought the GTA 4 expansion pack (finished the main story) and am still working on the gay tony story. Damn, this game's hella long.

I was really impressed with the quality of the biker/gay Tony addon stories.

I know some people have seemed to outgrow the GTA series, but I seem to get into every new one. Some great writing and voice acting, all around.

While the GTA series and some of the GTA inspired games are fun....

One has to wonder how many more GTA games they can make before it gets stale?

Since GTA 4 stripped features that were offered in San Andreas. We can assume GTA 5 will have a few more then well get a GTA 6 with all the features of San Andreas? I guess?

So he's "disrespecting" an awesome studio because he doesn't like a line of their games? If that's the case, I've "disrespected" every studio out there at one time or another.

GTA got old for me really quick too.

Actually, the disrespect is in the form of even posting in this thread. It's obviously about GTA5, so if you don't like the series, or the studio, then why even bother?

I can't stand Activision and the SHITTY Call of Duty franchise, but I'm not in that thread ragging on it.

Basically, get a life.

So it's a discussion on GTAV that's only limited to praise...that makes sense...

Basically, ignore what you don't think is relevant.

Not even close. How about you try to add something rather than simply say "It's stale." Do you honestly not see the difference between that and productive discussion?

Actually, my main point was to address to the "disrespect" comment, not delve into a review of the series. My thoughts on the game was (at best) an after thought. There is nothing really to add other than (in my opinion) the series is stale. Maybe 5 will add some nuisances that will re-kindle my interest, who knows.

I am very excited! Loved all the GTA games, even the "top down" versions of yore...

I haven't bought the add-ons for GTA4 (yet), but maybe that should be my next purchase... :hmm:
