you are a wealth of information. thanks!

now..... if i go to Europe any chance i could get a personal travel assistant to go with me? :D

Just tell me when babe! I'll be on a Greek island in August. Want to join me?

:wine:
wow! a sexy personal travel assistant on a Greek Island... it's a win-win!

I just reserved our table. 2:00 PM on Monday, August 15 good for you?

Directions: Drive to JFK airport, fly from JFK to Athens on Olympic (9 hours, 30 minutes), take a bus from the airport to the port of Piraeus (45-60 minutes), take a Hellas Flying Dolphin high-speed ferry to Naxos (4 hours), rent a car, and drive to the small hill town of Apiranthos on the eastern side of the island (30 minutes).

Just think, you could be dining at one of the coziest, picturesque towns in the Greek isles in less than 20 hours! Not too far away is it?

Just to let you know, those exact directions, with a little more detail, were followed to the letter by two friends of mine traveling to Europe for the first time. And they had no problem!

Yes, would be nice to add the "Pacific" point of view.

I think you overemphasized the "avoid clothes with US/College sports teams, baseball caps, spandex, etc" but that's just my opinion.

And a money belt...I've just always been biased against them since they seem to yell out tourist. I would go with money in the front pockets.

But great stuff overall!

They also sell smaller money pouches that can be worn around the neck, under a shirt. That's another option.

Told you so :p

I generally use the money "cat" as it's called over here to wear under my shirt. And keep your regular money the same place as you would normally, AFAIK we don't pick pocket more than in US......................unless of course you're a naive baboon of a US tourist ;)

Cool :)

I've always gone to east europe though. a little more cost effective, and having a house there helps.
been through austria a few times though, my aunt lives there, in a small town up in the hills.. not too far from Graz.

Funny how greece is the "west" and yugo is actually west of greece, yet considered "east" ;)

Excellent post.

I've been wanting to go on a big vacation there for years, though that won't happen soon. I won't have any vacation for the next 2 years :\
