In order to avoid this, create an offline GFWL account. When you reformat or reinstall, you'll have to download something called xliveless which prevents the game from connecting to GFWL. After you do that, you can copy your old save games to the new directory and they should work fine as long as they were created from an offline GFWL account.I hate the save game system every time I uninstall or format I lose my save file
If you want to play online, however, you'll have to remove the xliveless fix and add it back again when you want to play single player. The game files won't be deleted without the fix, so simply adding it again will allow you to play them again.
It really is a pain in the ass, though. I wish that GFWL would just die. The idea behind it was good, but it doesn't deliver on any of it's original promises. It has evolved into more of a sort of DRM than anything else. They should at least remove it if you're purchasing from steam; steam already has it's own DRM.
