just wondering for those of u who play GTA3... what hardware r u running, and at what resolution do u run at? in my primary rig, what resolution do u suggest i run at? my friend is running it on my machine @ 800x600 & 16bit. i have AF enabled to the max :D, & AA and vsync off. think it would be safe to bump up to a higher resolution? also, is this game extremely dark in the night scenes for anyone else? it's kinda wierd in that one second, it'll be daylight... then everything just goes black. is it supposed to be like that? i would figure there should be some gradual transition from day to night  anyway... i'm kinda sick of hearing "there is something wrong with ur machine man", so i have turned to a higher authority... YOU GUYS

I run GTA III @ 1600x1200 32bit and only the fram trails off. I get a littel stuttering during fog or rain. When it turns to night time, I can still see just fine.

You should be able to run 1280x960x32

Try the new catalyst drivers as well.

My rig is a little faster than yours, but not that much. I run GTA3 at 1280x1024x32 all details maxed, and I never notice a stutter or slowdown. I can see just fine at night, maybe you need to play with your gamma or your monitor. Course it could be a Radeon/driver thing since I am GF4, dunno. I would be really supprised if you could not run at least 1024x768.

PS: Yeah post #100 ;) :) now I do that another 100 times I will be a lifer too :)

I think I moved brightness up 2 notches from default.

1024x768x32bpp w/max view distance and anisotropc filtering enabled.
It's runs perfectly smoothly for me after I applied a no-CD patch. The game seems to check that the CD is in the drive constantly, it was choppy for me at anything above 800x600 before I applied the no-CD patch.

I can see perfectly fine in the game, transitions from day to dark are gradual and follow a predictable pattern based on the time and weather effects.

FWIW, I didnt need any gamma adjustments or anything.

this is too wierd. my GTA3 changes from day to night like in about 2 seconds. :disgust: perhaps i need to look for some ati patches, or get the newer catalyst drivers. wish me luck :)

P.S. - DEN... no one has a faster system than me! :p

The day-night transition is a slow thing for me, and i've got no issues seeing in the dark so i'd say it's a gamma/brightness issue.

Dont bother looking at my rig cuz it's outdated info, but I run it with 4x AA (forced by nVidia drivers) and everything on except trails, at 8x6x32.

The reason I use that res, is that at ANY higher resolution, no matter what I do, the game itself is fine, lagless, no tearing or anything, but as soon as it rains it's almost unplayable.

Fog seems to be fine, but the rain is just shocking...

This is the only game i've tried on my system so far that will lag; nothing else ever drops frames no matter what settings I use but I really cant be bothered doing a frame-rate test because if it never drops below the limiter I couldn't care less what it's capable of ;)

Rig is a P4 NW 1.8 @ 2.4, SiS 645, 768mb DDR running @ FSB speed, Gf3 Ti200 128mb DDR (core 240 mem 500), hardware RAID5 UW SCSI2 5-disk array (16gb)
WinXP pro (i've already installed that patch for the menu glitch)

I've seen this game unplayable at default res on SO many systems that should be able to handle it w/ no worries; people just keep telling me it's badly written; I've also been told there may be a patch to reduce the number of artifacts used in the rain and fog, or something along those lines...

Best of Luck...

ph0.

EDIT: Rig info updated... need to reset the coolbits sliders so I can push my vid card more tho - anyone know the registry values pls e-mail me I think I may have asked this already in another thread...
