Changes-

- Exception error after blue Rockstar load screen fixed.

- Error loading saved games fixed.

- Mouse sensitivity now saved with other settings (no changes made to existing settings).

- Option for user to play audio files directly from hard disk. Copy the contents of the PLAY discs Audio directory into your installed Grand Theft Auto III Audio directory. Grand Theft Auto III still requires the presence of the PLAY disc when started. This may give better performance on some machines (though worse on others).

- All protection checks (apart from needing PLAY disc to start) removed. Grand Theft Auto III still checks for the presence of the PLAY disc when initially started, and plays audio from the PLAY disc if not found on the hard disk (see above).

No sh!t, eh? Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but it is horribly unoptimized. I get almost identical performance and frame rates on an XP1800+/GF4 system as I do on a 1G Tbird/GF2MX system.

edit: spankyOO7, crank up your brightness in the video options. The default setting is very dark.

that sucks that you get the same perf from a gf4 and a gf2, it really is junk, way too many problems it seems they didnt do any testing.

So far: The game doesn't immediately crash when I get to police level 6. However the turtoise (armor) cheat doesn't work anymore.
Can't use the trainer, though this isn't too suprising.

Police won't get up to 6 until shoreside vale opens up to you. However you'll probably need to use the health cheat to stay alive long enough for the police to hit 6.

Nevermind, instantly crashed when I hit police level 6 this time. :(

How the heck did you get to police level 6? I can't get past 5.

You need to get to the third island before you can get up to 6. 4 is the max at the beggining, 5 in Staunton Island, and 6 in Shoreside Drive, or whatever it's called.

This patch is BS! There was absolutly no increase in FPS after installing the patch. The game is still sluggish with any rez above 800x600. With my system, and most other's as well, we should be able to play this game optimized at the max setting.

I simply reverted back to 1.0 as there is nothing in this patch that I requier. At least with 1.0 I can use a No-CD crack so I don't have to go through the crap of inserting a CD even though they made it so you can play it off the hd. When they release a patch that actually optimizes game play at max setting then I will install it.

That sure is pathetic of them. No performance enhancements at all...what a bunch of dimwits! Still a fun game though :D

I am playing GTA III @ 1600x1200 32bit and it stutters when it's foggy or raining. However, I really enjoy the game. ;)

What they did was like taking your car in to have the transmission fixed but all they do is change the oil. Sure, the oil needed changing but not as much as your transmission needed repairing!

I tried patching it, but it said it couldn't do the thing to GTA3.exe because it is an unknown type or something like that. Is there some other patch that I never downloaded? I installed the crack and that was it

If you installed the No-CD patch from before, you have to restore the original file.
