I've never encountered a problem with GFWL. Don't understand what all the complaints are about.

Well, combined with Steam it would make playing Grand Theft Auto 4 pretty anoying. You'd have to log in three times, once with Steam, once with Games for Windows Live and once with Rockstar Games' Social Club. The later is only required for multiplayer, but the game doesn't make that fact entirely obvious. Now while Steam is just as annoying a GFWL in this scenario, it's pretty absurd to have three online copy-protection schemes going at once. Most Steam users are going to see GFWL as being the most unnecessary part of this mess.

Since when do you have to log into each of these services every time you use them? Presumably most gamers are already logged into Steam and GFWL, and you're no longer required to use RSGC except for MP, which no one plays.

Also, this still doesn't address the issue of what everyone's problem is with GFWL. I've never had a problem with it in any of the games that use it.

IIRC the time I played the Xbox 360 version it wasn't smooth at all. Lots of times where it felt like it was doing 15-20 fps.

I foolishly bought the Xbox version after being dissatisfied with the frame rate on my old dual core machine. The frame rate on the Xbox version was the same or worse, and the game was a shit ton uglier. Plus I was forced to use the gumby controller for aiming, which was lame.

I don't normally have Steam or Game for Windows Live running, why would I? And yes, I already mentioned that you only need log in to Rockstar Games' Social Club if you want to play online.

I've already answered this. The most common complaint against GFWL is from Steam users who see it as unnecessary and redundant.

Why can't you leave everything on auto login? If you don't want to run steam, buy games from elsewhere. If you don't want GFWL, don't buy games that has it.

So in other words, don't buy Grand Theft Auto IV, especially not on Steam.

You weigh the pros and cons. If GFWL or even the color of the box is a deal breaker, don't buy it. This rule applies to pretty much everything in life. :colbert:

Many games are GFWL and will continue to be, so best to get used to it. As far as Steam, it's [mostly] great and here to stay. Besides there's much worse things like activation limits or Ubisoft's internet connection required BS. Running GTAIV on the PC is no big deal. $10 for the complete edition is a great deal, though I suspect $5-$7.50 soon enough.

Or perhaps you find a middle ground, buy Grand Theft Auto IV, and live with you think are annoying and unnecessarily redundant copy protection schemes. Love it or leave it are not your only options.
