It actually wasnt bad. I crashed 3 times trying to pick up the sub in the ocean, and the game said never mind and restarted me in the air with the sub already hooked up. :p

Is it anything like flying a helicopter in the Battlefield series?

Its awkward. You use wasd and 8,4,5,6 on the num keys. Also seems like its inverted or something. I'm not great at helicopters in BF either, but I can fly them better in BF and get around just fine. I just cant really beat anyone in a dogfight if they fly regularly.

What made the flight school in GTAV hard was you had to run the course in a certain amount of time. I would either miss a few targets and get docked enough time to fail, or spend too much time trying to hit the targets and then fail. I must have done it 15-20 times. All the plane courses I got gold on.

Yeah, in general I dont like the stories and characters in Rockstar games. Villains doing villainous things! The only exception was San Andreas. I do like open world games though, so I play the GTAs. Doing the Trevor missions sucks ass.
I just now got to Trevor's part (still haven't played the mission mentioned in your spoiler) but I think I may like this guy. I mean how can you not like a meth cooking gunrunner who lives out in the sticks in a grungy dilapidated trailer and gets things done post haste! LOL

I'm ok with the heli's in this game. but man I remember one of Trevor's first missions with the airplane, I had one hell of a time. Partly because I didn't realize you needed to press G to activate the landing gear. Small tip if you land without using the landing gear it will increase his flying stats dramatically.

I downloaded the FOV mod to make first person a little better. I'm not happy about how they did all the mirrors. Most every game has functional mirrors so it's odd they did this which makes first person view in the car quite difficult.

I did however tow a car and back it up to park it to unload all in first person looking out the rear window but mirrors would have helped make it easier.

Anyone notice how traffic AI is poor in regards to rules of the road? I see cars going on red lights, stay stopped on green or traffic jamming where it's not necessary....kinda odd but with the narrow lanes and poor controls it's impossible to drive in the correct lane.....not that many play like that of course but I find it fun to attempt realistic driving but it's a no go so far.

Also the analogue trigger for acceleration doesn't work. It's either full throttle or nothing so you can't just cruise around if you wanted.

i only do first person driving when for example i want to drive to the top of mount chiliad, and them tumble down it in first person view. that is pretty awesome.

other than that, i use independent cameras so i when i enter a vehicle it switches to third person.

Thats because we would like the game at a playable frame rate. It is pretty amazing how many cars, pedestrians, and animals the game has to keep track of around you (In a circle, not just what you see ahead of you). It was pretty obvious in GTA4 that the non visual AI (the objects behind you) got a low priority because if you hung around for any period of time, something behind you would crash. That also attributed the the "car out of fn nowhere mowing you down at insane speeds" syndrome.

GTA5 is much better at it, and handles about 5x as many cars. Not nearly as many AI created accidents. You will still see weaknesses in the ai routine, but clearly it is not just "lazy programming".

I got the car stuck during the opening police chase. It suffered some slowdowns on my GTX 780ti and Asus Swift. So my new GTX 980 will be here tomorrow to solve my woes.

used FRAPS benchmark to get an idea of what gameplay FPS #s look like

playing without FPS #s showing

during Daddy's Little Girl mission (sunny weather), didn't really notice any slowdown

was in city / beach areas

during getting Gas for Lester jewelry store heist (day to dusk to night & raining), noticed slowdown while it was raining and when I got into significant vehicle crashes

was in city / country areas while getting chased by police

"I'm a crank, cannibalism and incest kind of guy."
LOL!

Im only like 15% into the game but Trevor's missions so far have been the best by a long shot. It was great to go on a "Rampage" mission, seems like it has been forever since I saw one of those in GTA.

So, I take it many if not most of you haven't played this game prior to pc? I played around 5 times through on 360 and am loving the pc version.

i definitely use a gamepad for 100% of the single player

anyhow, if in 3rd person view think of it like flying an airplane, you need to hold down to go up

So how are you guys actually enjoying the gameplay?

I've played GTA 4. I was bit disappointed that it was basically exact same stuff all over again. The game never managed to suck me in hard.

Until... Trevor missions started. I was pleasantly surprised at how fleshed out the desert was. It's a literal upgrade from GTA 4 in showing the varied landscape. Driving back to the city was a beautiful little road trip- just like the ones I took IRL.

That kind of hit the spot. The unprecedented art asset and graphics are jaw dropping. I just can't get over the weather effects. The mountainscapes are ridiculously beautiful when it's raining.

While GTA 5 didn't break any new ground in terms of gameplay, it's a good pick-up game.

10/10 graphics.

Yes the map is the most incredible thing ever made in the history of video gaming.

But I can't get the first heist to work on GTA Online :\

The Fleeca Heist setup one, it keeps freezing when I try to deliver the truck to my garage
