I know from experience with another rig,the higher the settings the harsher it becomes for lower end processors like the i3 chips.Easily lose half your frame rate from low to ultra lol.

Guess i will report my findings tomorrow.:)
I have a 775 q9500 and an r290 and run everything on max settings and it plays great. The ssd hds help a lot too.

Haven't even wanted to touch GTA4 since i played GTA5 lol. It's been uninstalled since GTA5 with no regrets.

Borrowing my buddies gtx970+ psu tomorrow, see what frames i could pull from this cpu.:)Maybe drop in like a 750 ti when i can afford it but not sure if the motherboard is compatible with the 900 series. It's old lol.
Both were so ho-hum entertainment wise that I didnt get any replay-ability out of either of them. Ive not touched either game since completing the main story missions. GTA4 still sits on a rarely touched backup drive in my system, but I'd say GTA5's days are numbered since it is taking up precious space on an SSD. LOL

LOL i got GTAV on a older mechanical from 2009,it works and despite only having 6gb of ram on this thing and having constant disk access it doesn't stutter or anything actually. If i could get more frames with additional memory i don't know but i don't intend on finding anymore ddr2 memory.:p

I never got far into into either game as far as stories go,i am just into causing as much hell as humanly possible before i get 5 stars,a swat team and a parade of cops end me.The more hookers and pedestrians i kill along the way only makes things just a bit better.:)

Actually concluded some tests this morning on my buddies gtx970+1080p monitor, just slapped them in here and well Maxwell is compatible with a G33 based motherboard in my Dell Inspiron 518.:)

FPS wise,i capped it at 30fps per FutureFields advice and maxed out@1080p besides High grass, all sliders off and advanced settings off i was able to sustain 30fps and this was with 4x msaa.8x msaa actually pushes the card hard enough at times i could actually toss in a 980 and it could make use of it but at 4x it simply appears the cpu warrants what fps i get.

My setup i use a 23'' 768p t.v so running same settings but 768p resolution i hold 30fps and get about 20-35% gpu usage.Vram usage is over 2gb so maybe something like a 4gb 960 or a used 780 would work for me.

I reformatted my PC and reinstalled GTA V. Now when I launch it, I don't get an option to go online. Anybody know what the deal is?

Wow, no cloud saving for GTA 5. What a joke.

Backup your saves if you plan on reformatting or doing a fresh install of Windows 10 guys.

Just reformatted my pc as well but with 7,i get my online tab still.

Speaking of which, does this game honestly hate pagefiles on anything but ssds?I went from a pretty clean running game to a stuttering mess after removing my ssd from my build to go into my laptop.

Takes about 10 minutes or so but the game goes from smooth to a hitching, freezing that is pretty much unbearable.HD light is pretty much on when the freezing starts.Only resolvable with a game restart but the entire desktop just crawls for a min after closing the game too.

If paging is a problem, it could be the dynamic nature of the pagefile on Windows.

On Windows, your pagefile does not have a fixed size. It grows and shrinks. This costs extra time. Especially if you have little space left on your disk. Or when the disk is heavily fragmented.

You could set a fixed size for your pagefile. Open the system control-panel. Advanced tab. Performance. Click Settings button. Advanced tab. Virtual Memory. Click Change.

Set your pagefile on one disk. Select custom size. Put the initial size and the maximum size to the same value. If you have 8GB ram in your system, then 4GB for the pagefile should be enough (that's 4096 MB). Set the values to 0 on the disks you are not using for the pagefile.

Maybe it helps. Maybe it doesn't. It's only a few minutes to configure this. If it doesn't help, it won't hurt either. Worth a try.

====
If you have less than 8GB of physical ram, you might have a problem. That you can't fix.
If you have more than 8GB of physical ram, there might be a memory leak. I think it's unlikely the leak is in GTAV itself. Or else there would be more complaining. Maybe in a mod ?
When you have memory problems, the default thing to do is to run the game with no other applications running. No browser open. No stuff running in the background. Etc.

I was thinking this,i got 6gb of ram.My cousin runs on a mechanical drive nearly as old as mine from 2009 and he has 8gb and doesn't have these issues in GTA V.

Maybe the ssd was more or less of a patch, its quick access times just may have made the experience smooth enough to not question the memory. My disk has like a 16ms seek time.

I know why Rockstar delayed the PC version.

So they could release it in a different fiscal year than the next gen versions, which were in a different fiscal year from the last gen versions.

It just occured to me that Rockstar releases a game every year. But this is the first time they've milked the same game 3 years in a row.

2008 - GTA 4
2009 - Episodes From Liberty City
2010 - Red Dead Redemption
2011 - L.A. Noire
2012 - Max Payne 3
2013 - GTA 5 (360/PS3)
2014 - GTA 5 (XB1/PS4)
2015 - GTA 5 (PC)

They have been milking the same game for 3 years so they can have good fiscal earnings without actually putting out a new title.

Their parent company has published many more than that.

That's a smart business plan though..... I mean what's wrong with securing financing of their next game by having an inflow of cash for several years.

At least the game turned out fine on PC, big deal that it came a bit later when its by far the superior version.

I dunno I guess mine is hacked or something I guess. I don't think I've ever had it NOT save my progress cloud style.
well I just did a fresh install of Win 10 so I know it does not transfer single player progress. I already knew to back it up before doing so as there are tons of posts on this topic on the GTA 5 forums clearly stating that single player progress is not saved in the cloud.

Yes, single player is local, though it's a fairly short play through. Like 15 hours? It's not a big deal.

Don't log on for months and go on tonight, only to find that they removed my billion snacks. Screw this game forever! assholes.
