Explain please. I'm serious, I don't get it. You just do missions and follow a story in GTA4, in SR3 you can do everything you can do in GTA plus more. There's no way GTA can actually be more fun, since SR3 lets you do more. It's just not possible.

What more can you do? I played sr3 and I didn't get much more out of it. I just didn't like how corny it was too gangster g unit style for me.

re: SR3 v GTA IV

Both are great games, but for different reasons. IMO, SR3 has more replay value, mainly because you can just jump in for short periods of time and have a blast with it. GTA IV is more story driven(in fact, SR3 hardly has a story at all) and as such requires more time to enjoy.

While I agree that SR3 is a better game than GTA4, your argument is very flawed. Just because SR3 has more "stuff" in it, doesn't by any means make it more "fun".

In terms of the "open-world city" genre, my favorite game is actually Sleeping Dogs. In order it would probably be Sleeping Dogs > Saints Row 3 > Saints Row 2 > Any GTA that's not 4 > GTA 4.

I loved Sleeping Dogs as well, very solid game. Also very much better than GTA. And I'm not saying GTA is awful, it's just not nearly as good as the competition at this point. You can go play your golf in GTA5 if you want, but I'd rather be wrecking a town in a tank.

I really enjoyed Sleeping Dogs but it didn't have as much to do as other open world games. It definitely had much better story and voice acting than other open world games.

That was one cool game I enjoyed it as well. It reminded me of shenmue. But you are right they didn't have anything else to do other than collect statues or hack the cameras.

Car theft missions from internet cafe, races (and the cars handled properly), motorcycle races, kung fu challenges.

Speaking of the kung fu...sleeping dogs did hand to hand combat better than any open world game I know of.

SR3 has almost 0 replay value to me. In fact, I haven't played it since I finished the story. GTA IV though, I still regularly go back just to fuck around in the city. I can just drive around in GTA IV and have a blast playing with the physics and the living world. I don't need side missions or things on the side to do, the game is just fun enough by itself. This is why I'm so excited for GTA V. If they can replicate the feeling and the city of GTA IV, but also add on the extras it should be pretty amazing.

I would have a very hard time picking a favorite between SR2 and GTA IV though. They are 2 of my favorite games this gen, and they both do their own thing perfectly.

Angry Joe sums up my feelings about the Saints Row franchise in his SR3 review almost exactly.:

Oh, and this reddit comment put it better than I ever could:

I had a ton of fun with SR2 and SR3, and also with every GTA since GTA3. While they're both open world crime games, they have entirely different feels to them.

I'm surprised no one is talking about this game, especially with the multiplayer reveal yesterday. The online world sounds awesome, and this game is the main reason why I am most likely holding off on the next generation.

This video has been out for a while. Someone already posted this link. It does however look amazing. I truly hope they push it to PC sooner rather than later and "Port" it correctly.
Wishful thinking I know, time will tell... ( crosses fingers)

I guess we have different outlooks on it then. I enjoyed messing around in the city with my friends and had fun on the co-op missions. I didn't really play mich of the death match type stuff, but give me and my friends something to work on, plus allow us to fully explore the world and play games like golf and stuff, and I will have a blast.

The problem I'd have comes with the addition of other players. Sure, it would be fun to just goof off with a friend every once in awhile in the GTA world, but if you add in any number greater than 0 of the random 12 year old trolls that plague online gaming, you are going to have a bad time.

And a game based solely around that seems very likely to fail or end up Runescape 2.0. But, I have a problem with single player worlds transitioning to online worlds; especially in the cases of games wher e the player is the single hero / protagonist and 'special' in some way. Take the Elder Scrolls Online: is every player supposed to be The Nerevarine?

Ah, I didn't catch that it will be open to a bunch of random players. Hopefully they will have some kind of setting to make it more private or something.

I couldn't read much about it, but it comes with GTA5 as a standalone MMO type of persistent world multiplayer. I don't know all the specifics, but if you can't lock it down to friends or invites only (and still have a host or admin able to banish people), it will be awful.

GTA4 online for me is too random. If there was somehow more structure it might be better. You just get this feeling like nothing you do in Liberty City really matters because there is zero customization, you cant go in any buildings etc...

I had a blast with gta 4 online. We have a good group of guys that have played together almost nightly since cod mw2 so every one knows each other and we had a lot of fun. As long as you can lock it down with no randoms we will have a blast playing gta 5 too

HAHA Halo 4? Seriously? wow...ok we're done here

Halo 4 looked alright, but it's not even close. Forza 4 looks better than Halo 4. The overuse of FXAA to hide the jaggies on everything made it blurry as hell.

The Last Of Us has some very poor low res baked lighting going on, very low resolution textures, and often non-existent colour grading, particularly in levels where there is a sunset. The AI is also no better than many things from the previous generation.

In contrast GTA 5 looks impressive and what I'd expect from a game released nearing the end of a console's life cycle, which is a very selective process of enhancing what most players will pay attention to, such as characters, facial animations, particle and water effects, while minimising the use of complex textures, and only spending polygon count where it's absolutely needed.
