GTA 5 crashes even in safemode

I got GTA 5 on Steam when it released and it used to work just fine. I quit playing it for a while and decided to pick it up again. My backup of the game would not launch so I downloaded it again and it would crash within a few minutes even in safe mode.

I have all the latest drivers, W10 and same hardware that it once ran just fine on before. Is there a patch issue? Any suggestions?

You can also verify files with Steam, and see if it reports them as being OK.
If they are, try older drivers as well, the new ones might have bugs with this game.

Are you overclocking? Try stock speed.

No it's all stock, like I said it's all the same since I last played it months ago.

Same result with previous version drivers, both are WHQL

I think what Elixer was suggesting is, did you verify integrity of game cache in steam? I had to do this a couple times while playing gta and it worked every time...

right click game---properties---local files

I even did that before I redownloaded it, was fine then too and it wouldn't even launch the exe. This time it runs fine for a random period of time and crashes hard, I have to reset the whole computer, can't cntrl/alt/delete out.

I might try a beta driver next time as it seems either like a patch/update issue or a video driver related one though this would be the first time I've had a video driver issue in quite a few years.

Have you done a RAM test and CPU check?

Perhaps the motherboard is starting to fail (leaky caps?).

I have the 970, but I gave up and uninstalled it. Fuck the game.

Do a safe mode uninstall of drivers and run Display Driver Uninstaller, then install something that isn't 364.47 or newer.

I've been having black screen/corruption issues with latest nV driver.
