Hardspell.

This is the second time in like two weeks I heard of a new card coming with GDDR5 and DirectX10.1 but, this is the first article mentioning GT200b scrapped.

Hmm...

The two comments below the news pretty much sum up my view on the matter :p

I didn't bother to post this earlier...this definitely puts the GTX280 buyers in a dilemma.

Right so NV will skip half node 55nm altogether (without it being proven yet on 9800GTX+ in terms of yields) and go for unproven 45nm on their most complex card, improving performance by 2.25x? (850mhz x 384 SPs vs. 602 mhz x 240 SPs)....

Maybe in 18 months!

well... there is going to be a G92B which is G92 @ 55nm...
If they are scrapping the G200b and going straight to G300... That could potentially mean that instead of a 55nm shrink to the G200, we will see a modified G200 with DX10.1 and GDDR5 and 55nm all at once. Rather then adding those things incrementally.

Unless the article specifies 45nm, I don't know, cause i can't load it for some reason.

It is said that NVIDIA possible cancel G200b and to release new G3x0. It will integrate 384SP and it will use 45nm technology. Its power consumption will cut a lot than G200. Its clocks will be improved to 850/2000MHz. It will match 1GB 256bit GDDR5 memory and the clock will be more than 4000MHz. It will defeat 4870X2.

Finally, some competition for FUDzilla for worst-written fake news in the industry!

The next thing you see from Nvidia will be a die shrink release with a possible speed bump.

G300 will have two GT200 on one PCB with 8GB of shared GDDR5.

Oh and it lays eggs, too.

agreed with foxery and genx87...

If they had DX10.1 and GDDR5 capability just waiting to be enabled, and decided to do a die shrink + enabling at once... well, that would have been reasonable...
but a 45nm 1GB 256bit GDDR5 mem with over 4000mhz clockspeed and defeating the 4870x2?
Also the broken english? yea, lets welcome the new fudzilla.

check out the name.. "HardSpell"...
Aside from the name itself being engrish.. it fits them perfectly, it is apparently very hard for them to spell...

Sounds like DDR5 with 512 bit bus w/ all these other things might cost a few kidneys;)

I copied over the digitimes news in case they ask for subscription. (Thanks Extelleron)

Nvidia to fully advance to 55nm in 2H08, says paper

In order to lower production costs, Nvidia is expected to fully advance to 55nm generation manufacturing in the second half of this year and will have 4-5 new GPUs produced under 55nm before the end of this quarter, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report. Meanwhile both Nvidia and AMD are hoping to complete their 40nm tape-outs by the end of this year, the paper added.

Currently, Nvidia's GT200 and G92b GPUs have already adopted a 55nm process and the company's mid-range G96, which will launch by the end this month, will come in both 65nm and 55nm versions. However, the company's upcoming GPUs including G94b, G96b and G98b, which are scheduled to launch after August, will all use a 55nm process from either Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) or United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) with average costs expected to drop around 20%, added the paper.

eh, from what i hear the 4870 with 1GB of ram will be only 30$ more then the 512MB of ram...
GDDR5 is more expensive.. but not THAT MUCH more expensive... for 1GB it should be less then 50$ more then GDDR3

and the CPU cost would go down.

That sounds more like some NV fanboy's wet dream than a credible article. The 55nm process didn't cut power consumption by anywhere close to "a lot" judging by the g92b numbers, and the higher clocks will more than offset that little improvement. And 45nm doesn't even exist at TSMC.

Yeah, I know; I never said it was credible; in fact is mostly fud. It was however the second time I've heard a NV card to be coming with GDDR5 and the possibility of directX 10.1 so there could be a tad bit of truth in there.
