I cant decide between the 7900gt or 1800xt/ I'll probably oc a little bit but i dont really want to do a v-mod. The only resolution i play at is 1280x1024. i play mainly cod2, and bf2
i;m kinda leanin towards the x1800 cause its cheaper and i'm not going to be playing at any extreme resolutions. Any suggestions?
 
The X1800XT would be my recommendations - it will run COD2 and BF2 better than the 7900GT, and as you said, is cheaper. It is neck and neck with the 79GT, and argueably a little bit faster.
 
I cannot speak from experience as for the 7900GT, but I love my x1800xt. Make sure you get the 512 version to help with future games.
 
i'm thinking about replacing my 7900gt with an 1800xt. apparently GRAW requires 512mb to get higher resolutions than 1280x1024 (like, it won't even let you access them without hacking the config files if it detects a 256mb card) and i'm not overly impressed with the 7900gt's performance. i might even go 1900xt, but for the price difference the 1800xt seems to be a bargain for the games i play (bf2, cod2, graw).
 
7900gt might be good too! its now competing with x19xt 😀! 1280x1024 is not that low,its used alot..search for the thread its only to test 7900gt vs x19xt (not x18xt)

If you volt mod it it can, although right now it looks perfectly safe some (me included) don't feel comfortable messing with a $300 item. If you're willing to risk it then by all means go with the 7900GT but otherwise I'd go with the X1800XT.
 
I just got in on the MSI X1800XT 512MB deal from newegg for $243 A/R. Even at $300 it is a deal. The 7900GT is very comparable to the 7800GTX's I have and would take the X1800XT over them any day. It seems that the X1800XT is more consistent with FPS with the min being higher than the min for the 78/7900 series cards. The 512MB will help in the future, I'm sure.
