This. NFS is fun, but not remotely close to GT/Forza in realism or simulation. You are kidding yourself if think otherwise.
When everyone is saying simply "NFS", are y'all speaking strictly of NFS Shift, or speaking in terms of all Need For Speed games?
Because if the latter, you do know Shift is in an entirely different class from every other NFS game in EA's history, yes?
Also, how is it being played? With a console-style controller, too many aids are in play because of the serious handicap with controllers, as modulating every input can't be done.
With all handicaps off, NFS can feel entirely different. However, the stock retail game still wasn't great with all handicaps off - but the engine in the background can easily handle far more realism if the team desires such. They altered a lot to strike a fine balance between accurate simulation and hardcore arcade (as opposed to true arcade, which is even more, well.. arcade-ish)... essentially, it dumbed down the physics engine with strange variable-implementation that makes simply changing the variables not enough to remove the handling tweaks. And then the races are a little more crazy, as the AI and style of handling almost forces you to drive less realistically.
If they re-tweak the way they utilized the physics engine at the heart of the game, they can certainly make a stronger attempt at simulation.
