Question GT 710 ... "Gaming Edition"? Is THAT what we've come to? (2GB GDDR5 version)

Don't get me wrong, it looks pretty slick, but why on earth would they stick 2GB of GDDR5 on this card? Except, to serve as an (EXTREMELY!) low-end gaming card?

Seems kind of crazy if true, but ... that's the most directly answer that I could come up with, when I ask myself "why?".

Seeing as how prices have risen on the GT 1030 2GB GDDR5 cards, up to $150 now, NON-scalped prices, as those have risen to the top of the pack as newly bona-fide "Gaming" cards, these GT 710 cards seem to fill up the ranks as well, at only $69.99.

Granted, that's actually not a bad price overall, for ANY 2GB GDDR5 card. The 2GB GDDR5 MSI single-slot half-height GT 730 cards from MSI that were rare but kinda awesome in their own way, were often $70-$100 on their own, even BEFORE the "Great GPU Shortage of 2020-2021".

(Just waiting for the 4GB GDDR5 "Gaming Edition" Radeon 5450 cards... LOL.)

It has to be down to the PSU. It's 220W combined, and from 2012 mfg date. Def. out-of-date, and likely failing to provide enough power. (Boot-loops after installing GT710, if it weren't power, I would expect it to boot Win10 and load drivers eventually.)

I have three video cards that can drive my 1440p ultrawide. I don't sell them because they are backups. I'm not paying this markup at this time.

i also have a GTX 970 + GTX 1060 6GB + GTX 1070Ti + GTX 1080Ti
all on standby incase someone important to me happens to have catastrophic failure during this whole mess.

My family members are not worried at all, because i am the IT who always seems to have "something in the back."

I'm waiting for my old Radeon HD 6870 to become valuable enough to sell on eBay. Although I could probably take the "HD" part out of the model name and sell it to some sucker for $1,000 right now.

For web browsing and other simple tasks all you need is HD 4650. Works fine in Windows 10 (default driver). With the h265ify Chrome extension, it can even be used for YT <=1080p hw video decoding. That can be had for under $20 on eBay. Also, it retains the original ATI branding, MASSIVE COOL FACTOR, I SAY 😎

Feel lucky it is a GT 710, there still some G210 around. God thing that the HD5450 supply ran out some years ago.
