Gskill: "too many works, too less memory?"

Well the quality of that English still exceeds what I see on the internet written by those Americans and Canadians whose first and only language is English. Do they teach English grammar in American schools and universities anymore? Kids are getting out of top tier universities with a tenuous grasp of written English. I've even met some, then I read their words. What I read boggled my mind.

As a society Americans in particular have no license to criticize any one else's English. (Mozilla spell check doesn't think that "else's" is a word but I bet some American was responsible for that - d'oh).

As for G.Skill it's not my problem what they choose to do with their advertising budget.

What about people who converted into americanism (naturalized citizens, not native borns) for whom english is a second language (or third or fourth, etc) language? can I criticize someone's English then?

However, if you have a product you are marketing to a group of predominantly English-speaking North Americans, it is in YOUR best interest, not ours, that YOU speak OUR language so that we would notice that your ad, in addition to its racist commentary, is trying to tip us off that you make decent RAM modules.

So if you're not pleased with the ad, then ignore it. Its purpose is to serve you, not vice versa. You ignoring the ad is probably the biggest, and most noticeable, protest you could possibly mount against G.Skill. Though I have to say, their DIMMs of late have been of very good quality.

The truth is that most of them while sporting accents tend to have a stronger grasp on written English than most Americans. But we tend to select educated people to come here.

You can criticize anyone you wish to, but if you are going to criticize foreigners' English it would be good to note all the criticism that needs to be dished out in our own backyard.

But yes, I think it's okay to cut someone slack if English is their second language. It's a hard language for most of the world to learn. But it makes me sick to stomach to see people who get a free government paid for education until 12th grade who are asked to learn ONE and only one language to be so pathetic at writing in the one language they are supposed to use to communicate.

I have met people from (as an example) Russia, who may not have the best grasp on English but who may be able to produce brilliant work in Math or Engineering. This person is likely intelligent enough to express himself/herself fluently in Russian. If this person can come to the US and contribute enough to society to earn a living who am I to judge his English?

But again, when you are expected to learn ONE fricking language and the government is paying for you to learn that one language it's a sad, sad tale to see how incompetent people can be in a 1st world country at being literate.

I know. It's good for you that you learned the predominant language of your new home. I did the same, but I grew up here from a much earlier age so it was much easier for me.

I think in general people who want to succeed learn the language of their new country and learn it well. If anything you have earned the right to criticize people for whom English is their native language and they still can't learn it as well as an immigrant can. I believe this and that's why I am very critical when I see a white bread born and brought up in the US American who uses English at the level of a 2nd grader. I find it appalling. Disgusting even when you are expected to know one language and your government is paying you to learn it. People around the world are fighting for literacy and some people have all the tools on their platter and still fail to learn one language properly.

So basically my answer is yes, you can go ahead and criticize anyone's English especially native speakers who are at the 2nd grade level.

As for foreigners in the US, I can tell you there are people who live just fine in this country without speaking any English. They come here knowing only Spanish and they expect everyone to learn their language. It works too, because everyone who wants to sell products and services to them will learn Spanish.

I suppose by that token if G.Skill wants to sell to English speaking American audiences they should learn to advertise in American English. Again, their statement may have been acceptable in England or Australia, but not the US. So I suppose they need to have "American English" tutors around to sell to us.


I suppose to answer your question more broadly, anyone who is better at something can criticize someone who is worse at that task, but what would be gain from it overall? I just get riled up when I see people with every opportunity in the world piss it away. There are people in the world who can't even find food, and we have people on every kind of government assistance being given books and free schooling who can't seem to care.

I guess this thread has gone P&N.
