I saw that cat's face on a bag of cat food the other day while at the supermarket. I was thinking, "damn, that ugly-ass cat is worth a shitpile of money."

Ah, the age old dilemma... People want to tell a woman she can't make money with her kitty. :awe:

She makes the money because people buy her shit... What's the problem?

I'd love that cat and would be happy with a tenth of what she made.

P.S. Who watched the Lifetime movie? It was on like 2 weeks ago... It was on here this past Sunday.

My son was watching the movie and I saw a few bits of it. I honestly thought it was pretty funny. The grumpy cat's voice was April from Parks and Rec. Thought she did well with it. They had the grumpy cat driving a car...basically all I needed was to look at that grumpy cat face though and I was cracking up. Don't think I'd be able to watch the whole thing though. ha.

Retards pissed off about a retarded society that chooses to pay money to be entertained by a retarded cat. Sounds right.

The value of a movie deal for someone like grumpy cat is 5mil, tops.

The source article doesn't even have a breakdown of this supposed 100m fortune

Probably this crap:
http://www.amazon.com/Grumpy-Cat-Book/dp/1452126577/
http://www.amazon.com/Gund-Grumpy-Pl...dp/B00DVDMRX6/
http://www.amazon.com/Grumpy-Guide-L...dp/1452134235/
http://www.amazon.com/Grumpy-Cat-201...dp/1452128162/

I would definitely whore my pet out if it meant that kind of money. F**k bettering society. Seriously.

Let's be generous and give grumpy cat 20% of gross. To earn just 50 million grumpy cat needs to make 250 million wholesale which is some half a billion retail. Pardon me if I don't buy that at all. And that's only 50m - he needs to earn another 50m
To get to this supposed 100m figure.

The only thing bad about the grumpy cat movie is they had completely wrong voice. I always pictured him with the voice of the "True Facts about 'weird animal x'" guy..come on you know it would have been better.

Yeah I don't think people realize how much money they're giving to people for stuff because they're not doing it entirely directly.
This.
Or in some cases, they don't understand that a lot of little things can add up quickly.

The guy who makes the Freeman's Mind series said that he needed a new hard drive to make a move to high-definition video bearable. So he opened up donations to get somewhere around $500.

He ended up with more than $17,000.

Then on top of that, some online content provider or hardware place, can't remember which, simply gave him the hard drive he'd wanted.
That was probably just a bunch of people kicking in $5 or so.

I chalk it up to an anomaly in the human brain. Part of it is that many of us suck at visualizing numbers higher than roughly 100, and we place an incredible amount of value on fame. We've got ancient tribal roots, and being either well-known by the group, or even associated with someone well-known would have given you a better chance at survival. So ingrained somewhere into us at a very primitive level is the idea that high social standing equals remaining alive.
Welcome to the world of millionaire movie stars.

I love Aubrey Plaza but I agree, she doesn't really have a voice for overdubs.

If grumpy cat is making money and Honey Boo Boo is cancelled, at least something good has happened this year.

Oh I don't doubt at all that the $100m is a total asspull. The only thing more ridiculous than the amount of money people are making for shitty Youtube videos and the like (which more power to them, but again, I wish people would realize how much of a role they play in enabling stuff like that) is the fact checking for journalism these days.

I do wonder how many of the people making money from this stuff are reporting their taxes properly though (especially the ones that have basically turned into full on marketing shills in exchange for kickbacks). Then again, shit, no one else does (and the companies paying out to these Internet stars sure as shit aren't; will be interesting to see if those payouts last if they close the tax loopholes they've been using).

If grumpy cat is making money and Honey Boo Boo is cancelled, at least something good has happened this year.

That's a nice sentiment until you realize the only reason Honey Boo Boo got cancelled is because the mom is dating a man who molested her oldest daughter.

See you just gave me an idea for a christmas gift. My sister loves grumpy cat for some reason. I don't give a fuck if grumpy cat represents society's steady movement away from the valuation and pursuit of intellectual pleasures in favor of nonsensical and irrelevant frippery. If it makes an easy christmas gift I'm all over that shit.

Anyone worried about that should be upset about the vapid idiocy represented by People magazine, The National Enquirer, TMZ etc. and not a fad like Grumpy Cat.
